It's been years in the making. The long awaited prequel film to The Sopranos has finally happened and the first trailer has posted. The story will tell of the youthful years of one Tony Soprano as he makes his way up the ranks of the crime family that we all were introduced to in the long running HBO series. In the film, Tony is played by James Gandolfini's son, Michael, who just so happens to sound exactly like his father. The film will feature younger versions of many of the characters we met in the show and is written and produced by show creator David Chase. Honestly, we weren't so sure about this when it was announced but it looks like it'll end up being great!!The movie will premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on October 1st. This weekend saw Disney's latest animated release, Raya and The Last Dragon take a foothold in the domestic U.S. box office with it's $8.6 million take but it still is only a shade of what it would have done in normal times.A big animation hit for that studio would typically take in much higher opening grosses. Unfortunately, things may really start to improve until the summer when vaccines are much easier to come by. Several weeks ago it was announced that Paramount was developing a new adaptation of The Man Who Fell To Earth for Showtime. Based on the Walter Tevis novel of the same time it was previously a film starring David Bowie in the lead role. Now dramatic actor Chiwetel Ejiofor will take up the main character in the series for the cable outlet. The story focuses on an alien that lands on Earth and is forced to confront his own being and humanity's future. It has not been adapted closely to the source material since the masterful 1976 film directed by Nicolas Roeg. It was Bowie's first ever starring role in a live action film. Alan Tudyk has long been a favorite actor of mine. Like many of my peers, I came to know him as Wash on the TV series Firefly and its sequel film Serenity. My first exposure to just what a chameleon he could be, however, was in an underrated Sandra Bullock movie, 28 Days, wherein he plays an addict who brings some much-needed humor to an otherwise serious movie. The video game from Naughty Dog is being turned into a live action series that's set to premiere on HBO Max some time next year. The story tells of Joel and Ellie, 20 years after civilization has been decimated. The two make their way across the apocalyptic landscape attempting to survive at all costs. The show stars The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal in the central role of Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. The series that's been in the works for a couple years is officially filming with a first set photo posted by co-star Gabriel Luna. It establishes its characters and premise in a small dialogue exchange in the first couple of minutes that efficiently conveys everything the audience needs to know about this situation. Then, it gets Stanley and Tomas alone. The relationships between the characters are painted in broad strokes, so it can speed past them quickly to get to the crux of its action.
