Shudder: Fried Barry (2021) - Reviewed

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com - Sometimes it takes an outsider to take a real look inside—something that’s not human to shed light on the seedy underbelly of humanity.  In Ryan Kruger’s bold South African horror film Fried Barry, we see the world through the eyes of an alien, and humans suddenly seem more hyperviolent, ultrasexualized, and generally hedonistic than ever—but damn, is it a good time. The film follows Barry, a junky protagonist who’s an all-around bad guy and gets into more trouble than usual one night after an especially nasty lover’s spat followed by a heroin binge.  As he stumbles down the street, a flying saucer decides to swoop him up and aliens have their way with him, eventually leading to one of these intergalactic visitors inhabiting Barry’s body to go on a sex, drug, and violence-fi

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com -  Director Damian Lahey's contemplative film Simple Like Silver (2021) couldn't come at a better time. At its core, it is about the way that people's lives intersect with each other either directly or indirectly. Even if someone never meets face-to-face they are connected by universal truths and emotions like fear, sadness, hope, and exhilaration. Simple Like Silver follows the trajectory of three characters: Angela (Susanna Nelson) a women who wakes up disoriented and confused after being drugged after a date, Lucia (Christina Marsillach) a middle-aged women on a vacation after being diagnosed with a chronic terminal illness, and Joe (Hudson Sims) a young boy who is an aspiring writer. Through twists of fate these characters cross paths and inspire each other. The narrative and

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com - If you've ever delved into the world or galleries of knock-off toys, this should come as no surprise to you that some disasters just become fascinating. Such is the case with the just barely not Robocop packaged 'Robert Cop 2' action figure that became meme-worthy when artist Brad McGinty created a t-shirt for this non-existent movie. He had also made a small run of loosely packaged custom figures for the customers who ordered early enough. Now, Hiya Toys has announced it's exclusive for SDCC 2021 this year and this is far and away the best looking 'Robert Cop 2' figure yet. Hiya Toys has been producing official Robocop figures and this is just a packaging variant Robocop 2 figure in 3.75 inch scale. The figure comes with 4 total interchangeable hands, two blasters, and a Cain's brain acce

No Shelter For The Weak: Faces of Death Reboot Coming From Legendary Pictures

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com -  No horror franchise is safe from the reboot treatment. Now, the 1978 underground cult hit that spawned numerous fake documentary sequels is getting a full relaunch from Legendary Pictures. The original film was an infamous release that supposedly chronicled the real deaths of humans and animals alike. After being banned in multiple countries due to its nasty content, the film made a massive run in video stores and drummed up interest in several sequels that all ended up making tons of money for the studio. Decades later, Faces of Death will be given a new life under the guidance of Cam directors Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber. They will write and helm the new version of the movie. The Hollywood Reporter reported on the news earlier with a short synopsis of what's to come. The

Guy Ritchie does his best when he operates in the non-conformist confines of the criminal underbelly that's defined so many of his best works. When he skirts around this specific sub-genre, he's found himself failing to meet the needs of his rabid fandom. As he once again rebounds from big budget fare, he finds himself toiling with a morally ambiguous gang of characters that feels real, timely, and full of hard boiled grit. His latest work, Wrath of Man brings us back around to Ritchie and Statham pairing for another heist film that sees them both returning to form with a cold and calculated film that's boiling over with attitude and the physical characteristics that initially made the actor an A-gr

The Joke's On Us: Joaquin Phoenix Joker Sequel in Development

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com - image courtesy WB Although the film was extremely divisive, WB seems to be ratcheting up work on a sequel to Todd Philips' Joker film. The movie which exists in its own section of the expanded DC universe was a massive hit for the studio and brought them serious returns on their investment. The movie which copied much of Martin Scorsese's film library went on to $335 million in the United States against a meager budget of $55 million. It's no wonder they want to cash in on the character again. When it released in 2019, it was a definite hit but also had its share of negative reviews and comic book fans that didn't care for this adaptation of the character that was outside the bounds of the current DCEU. Now, it's been reported that WB and DC are currently attempting to come up w

Skating Up Hill: Marvel Studios Blade Reboot Aiming for Summer 2022 Start

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com - Ready or not, the movies are back. The popcorn is being popped and Marvel movies are making their way back to theaters. Earlier this week, Marvel Studios dropped a sizzle reel of coming attractions for fans while offering a look back at some iconic Marvel movie moments. We got a glimpse of when will see Black Widow, Eternals, and Shang-Chi on the big screen. We even got a taste of Marvel Studios take on Fantastic Four. The only film that was missing from the reel was Blade. And insiders have started to tell us why. You might remember way back in 2019, Blade was first announced as a major surprise during Marvel Studios' massive presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Mahershala Ali came out on stage and closed out the panel. Updates have been few and far between since besides the

After a massive global pandemic and years of keeping their movies away from movie theaters, the steaming giant has agreed to let one of their original projects loose on movie theaters for a limited run. And Zack Snyder seems to continue his positive run after his cut of Justice League proved to me a major hit for HBO MAX. You just read right. Netflix has signed a deal with Cinemark to screen Army of the Dead in over 200 of their theaters for one week prior to hitting the digital streamer. It will also be screened at iPic, Landmark, Alamo Drafthouse, Harkins and Cinepolis which will bring its theatrical release to the 600 theater mark. But it will not be seen at a single AMC or Regal.

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com - Most viewers/listeners will remember heavy-metal guitarist Chris Holmes from the second installment of Penelope Spheeris’ legendary music documentary series The Decline of Western Civilization.  Featuring a notorious episode with the former lead W.A.S.P. guitarist splayed out fully clothed on an inflatable chair before his mother in the swimming pool in a drunken stupor as he pours bottles of vodka down his throat.  The scene people remember over others in the film represents a moment cloaked in heavy metal rock music urban legend mystique with many calling bluff to an “act” while others say he really was downing booze like no tomorrow.  It spoke heavily to Chris Holmes’ own struggles with addiction and in a telling scene of Holmes rewatching the scene years later we s

It's Hard To Turn Off: Sylvester Stallone Releases New Behind The Scenes Footage From Last Blood

http://www.spoilerfreemoviesleuth.com - image courtesy LionsgateSylvester Stallone definitely knows how to deliver to his fan base via social media. The actor has recently taken to Instagram to reveal some new behind the scenes footage from Last Blood in which he's beaten and bloody. The actor wanted to show off the practical make up effects by Fiona Cush. Could this little tease mean that he's thinking about bringing Rambo back for another movie? Never one to put a character to sleep, we wouldn't be shocked if the actor/writer/director/producer is considering it. The supposed final bow for John Rambo was a critical and box office failure that didn't truly live up to the other movies in the franchise. Apparently, Stallone is actually working on developing a streaming prequel series that would go to an outlet like Amazon, N

After multiple sequels in the Michael Bay series, the Transformers were given a new start when Bumblebee premiered in theaters a couple years ago. Now they're readying the next movie which will supposedly carry on from those story threads. It was a welcome change after the Bay series went off the rails when Mark Wahlberg took over as the lead actor. It's recently been announced that Judas and the Black Messiah breakout star Dominique Fishback is in final negotiations to star in Caple's upcoming Transformers project. We haven't heard any really concrete details about the sequel since cult horror director Ben Wheatley signed on to direct the film. People had no idea what to think as the flick was both a box office and critical disaster. The story of an alien duck landing on Earth and becoming romantically involved with a human woman did not bode well with audiences. It was also one of the first Marvel properties to make its way to the cinema. The movie went on to win four Razzies and has long been considered one of the worst movies of all time. However, it does have quite a large cult following. The one positive is that it ultimately led to the creation of Pixar. Now, the tale of Howard the Duck is getting a 35th anniversary 4K UHD release that will be put out by Universal this coming July.
