What I did during lockdown

https://thoughtsandquestions108.blogspot.com - As life slowly begins to get back to normal,I feel compelled to reflect on my time during lockdown,Because life will never be normal again,Not a gesture, a smile, or a single frown. It will, in one way or another, be better than it wasBefore this virus came into our fragile and ever-diminishing lives. It’s awoken our senses to appreciate the simpler things in life,Things which we’ve been forced to embrace within our trusty little hives.I began lockdown by cleaning all of the windows for clear views, so that, whilst we ourselves were contained,Our spirits would not be, like the flying birds and free-reigning wildlife outside, even when it rained. My partner and I transformed our spare room from a junkyard into a neat and tidy office space,With a freestanding shelving unit and storage chests to put a vibrant smile on my face.I wrote numerous blogs, one of which was a 3000 word piece on Britain’s history of epidemics,Understanding why we’re a strong, resilient nation, largely due to our wonderful NHS medics.I wrote an 8000 word novelette called The Bright Red Beryl Stone and the Illusion of Power, which I self-published and made available for purchase on the Amazon Kindle store,And felt grateful for the frozen time allowing me the possibility of doing something I love like never before.I realized how too many of us sometimes take life and certain people for granted,Resulting in supposed loved ones becoming understandably disenchanted.I came to appreciate more than ever the loved ones and friends in my life,And decided to cherish and respect them more, even through times of strife.I made a poetry project for my family to let them know how much I missed and love them,So that their faith in my love for them should never, ever waiver, like a newly polished gem.My partner and I played more board games together,Resparking that competitive flame, and the knowledge that winning doesn’t always mean better.I bickered more with my partner, and in doing so learned better both of our imperfections,And with that improved knowledge we became a firmer team with a stronger connection.I shaved all my hair off, against opposing advice, respectfully,And jogged under the sun with a newly-unearthed scalp taking the summer air gratefully.I began to lose weight, one stone thus far, from my dieting and exercising regimes,Which has been a valuable lesson in self-motivation, discipline and routine.I realized how much I missed and love playing squash and snooker,What they mean to me in their own individual ways, and why sport is so intrinsic to one’s vigour.I realized the profound importance of reading fiction to one’s mental health,The act of temporarily disappearing into another world, cleansing the soul, and getting away from yourself.I realized, like never before, how fleeting and precious life is,and how I’ll never be the same again as long as I’m alive.Like I’ve just realized the world was a beautiful painting, and I can finally grasp its hidden yet simple meaning.Enjoy life.
