Footprints In New Snow by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

Posted By MadeFromRI on Photography

https://www.madefromrigallery.com - "I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently?" ~ Lewis Carroll

Bright sun and crisp air and freshly fallen snow. It clings to the trees and every bit of growth, bright and fresh. Stepping through the landscape encounters puffs of silver powder followed by a crunch. The sun illuminates all under bright blue skies. Look at the forecast because more snow is on the way.

Do dandelions have a dark side? This I do not know. I am amazed about their transformation from yellow flowering plants to fuzzy globes. Nabakov was right; dandelions change from suns to moons.

An Auspicious Day – Kirsten & Tyler’s Maui Elopement

Posted By karmahill on Photography

https://karmahill.com - We were enchanted with Kirsten & Tyler’s magical Maui elopement. The couple tied the knot on the peak of Haleakalā, enwrapped in a satin cloud of ʻohu, a light mountain mist. Rain is a sacred blessing in Hawaiian culture, a symbol of approval sent from the heavens to mark an auspicious day. And after witnessing […]The post An Auspicious Day – Kirsten & Tyler’s Maui Elopement appeared first on Karma Hill Photography.

Early risers have the best views of the day. They see the simple, uncomplicated, uncluttered scenes of the day. The views they see are minimalist and pure.

The sun rises over the East Passage of Narragansett Bay. There is a light mist rising off the water that the sun kisses. Reflections form and a gull on a spile takes in the view. Simple perfection.

Portrait Of A Gnome by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

Posted By MadeFromRI on Photography

https://www.madefromrigallery.com - I took a photo of a garden gnome in West Kingston, RI only to find out that it has become a symbol of a contemporary issue. Yes, a symbol or victim of my other profession of maritime transit. Recently (as of April 2021), there was a ship that blocked the Suez Canal in the Middle East.

The ship that blocked the Suez Canal is free now. Well, the ship is under arrest (one arrests the personality of a ship under Admiralty Law). There will be many issues to settle including the issue of "General Average".

But as a result of this global trade "hiccup", there is now a global shortage of garden gnomes. You can read more here: Gnome shortage: Lockdown and Suez canal blockage blamed - BBC News

So, protect and appreciate your gnomes. They may become sought after commodities.

We live in an area where walks are frequent respites. As spring progresses, walking among the trees, we often look up in wonder as their buds appear and leaf out.

These trees in the wood offer gentle filtering of light about in the sky. Puffy clouds above drift by. A special moment, indeed.

Why do cows have bells? Because their horns don't work!

A classic. We found that it was true on the South Kingstown Land Trust's Sculpture Trail in South Kingstown, RI. The bell does indeed work, but the horns do not.

South County Winter Scene by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

https://www.madefromrigallery.com - Three years. Well, more than three years, but three years simmering in the mind. Driving by one spot in all seasons thinking, "What a gorgeous scene that would be in winter".

My winter image has stayed in the back of my mind. Passing along this route when avoiding summer beach traffic. Avoiding the main traffic on Route 1 on school days. All those times passing by and thinking about how to find a place to pull over and take a winter shot in this one spot.

Well, it snowed last night. I was passing by. I pulled over. I climbed out of the van. I took the shot.

What Cheer ProvidenceThe Providence skyline as seen from the Port of Providence

"What Cheer Netop?" is a hybrid greeting bringing the English term, "What cheer do you bring?" and "Netop" meaning "neighbor" or "friend" in the Narragansett language. It is a greeting that is part of the history of Providence.

In 1636, Roger Williams left the Massachusetts Bay Colony seeking religious freedom. After crossing the Seekonk River into what would become Providence. As Williams approached the banks of the river in his canoe, "What Cheer Netop" was the greeting from the Narragansetts.

There is something similar that one feels approaching the Port of Provid

Walking, hiking, in the woods means encountering shadows. It's part of nature. The light of the sun streams through the trees and casts shadows.

Sometimes, the variations in light make the hike more difficult. Protruding rocks and roots make for obstacles to stumble upon. Or, we fail to see the bit of mud that our boot sinks into. This is all about situational awareness.

The situational awareness that we use to keep us from stumbling also helps in discov

As we walk, boat, hike, and move about our lives, we often encounter wildlife of different types. There are those who crawl out of the beach sand, those who fly above us, and those who scamper around us. We appreciate them all.

Check out some of these from our Nature/Wildlife Portfolio were we seek to offer smiles and wonder.

Dandelion And Sunshine

Dandelions provoke mixed feelings wherever we go. This especially applies in our own yards. They signify something that is not accepted in our lawn culture. All the same, they reach out to us in sunny contrast to the green grass.

Here I have walked our yard in the morning sun. Crows are making their noise as another bird chirps. And reaching to the early light through the shadows are the dandelions. I decide that since they have asserted themselves on th

The sun streams across the East Passage of Narragansett Bay in the early morning. I am standing near the M/V Coastal Queen in Jamestown, Rhode Island. The vessel is in a position that leaves me feeling as though I need to get to work as I remember my old excursion boat days.

This is a vessel that has been around for a long time. I remember this vessel as the "Viking Queen", a bigger sister vessel to the "Viking Princess" in Newport. The vessel had fallen into disrepair. It was fortunate that refurbishment occurred at Wickford Shipy

Serene Cards Pond Reflections by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

https://www.madefromrigallery.com - Walking away from Moonstone Beach in the late afternoon, I look to the east, to my right. Looking upward in the wires, I look to check for fishing lines and a lure. They are there, always different, but always there from someone's errant cast.

This is Card's Pond. This is on the small pedestrian causeway that allows access to Moonstone Beach. It is always calm and serene due to its protection from almost all winds.

Cards Pond is a transitional life metaphor. It's that place that we do not our destination but serves as a transition point that sets our attitudes. We go to the beach with anticipation of a pleasant experience. We leave having had that experience. Somehow, this serene image is what anchors our attitudes hours and days later.

A Country DriveBright late afternoon spring sunlight filters through the trees highlighting a country drive in Rhode Island's South County

As a youngster, Sunday afternoons outside of boating season were for taking a drive. Though I am not that old, the drive was more rural. Driving down what is now a retail district was a drive in the country (what is now Route 2 in Warwick, Rhode Island).

On those Sunday Drives, we would pass various properties and farms. Looking out the backseat window, I was often enamored with the property's driveways. Some were straight. Some curved. Some fence lined. The term is, "character". These places had character.

So today, as I move about, I make note of rural settings.
