"It's on the strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way. So we must dig and delve unceasingly."

Woodsy Trail ReflectionsReflections and translucency on the Rome Point Trail

Walking the trail back from Rome Point we notice a pool of water. It's the day after a plentiful spring rain, so it is not a surprise that the pool has gathered near the trail.

There is more to the pool. In the midday sun, it reflects and shows is translucent all in one. Mirrored shapes of vines form. The growth of spring repeats in its verdancy.

And in delving into the reflection, we find the beauty of spring. Monet was on to something.

Passing Jerusalem by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

https://www.madefromrigallery.com - I have always had a fascination with vessels in motion. Photographing them in series as they pass or perform a maneuver is something special to me. The first time I did this, I was ten years of age. It was the M/V Island Queen with my father as captain backing out of the pier in Massachusetts's Falmouth Harbor. It is an unusual maneuver and takes a certain skill due to the pier's angle, the bow overhang, and the harbor shape. The engines must assist by backing on one engine and pushing ahead on the other. There is some rumbling involved due to natural cavitation beneath the vessel. This causes some back eddies as the vessel turns and the visual results are fascinating.

Waves Making Foam At The RocksWaves pouring through an aperture on Narragansett's rocky shore

When I head out to photograph, I often don't know what I am going to find. I have an idea, of course, but I don't know for certain. This is why I like the rocky shore. It is deceiving and there is always something to see.

The rocky shore is deceiving because always looks calm. As one observes, the swells roll in, they have to work their way through rocky apertures. The waves speed up and pour through the rock. The effect is mesmerizing and beautiful.

The actual principle is the "Bernoulli Principle". In Hydrodamica, 1738, Daniel Bernoulli explained that the speed of the fluid occurs sim

Tulips were not always multi-colored. A virus caused many colors to form in tulips; the tulip breaking virus (TTBV). There are two varieties of the virus. These are the mild tulip breaking virus (MTBV) and the severe tulip breaking virus (STBC).

The virus infects the bulb causing the cultivar to "break" its lock on a single color. This results in intricate bars, stripes, streaks, featherings or flame-like on the petals.

Today, many of the colors are sought out through cultivation. There are few "broken" variet

There are days that one is thankful to live near the shore. This is a place where we are able to listen to the waves, calm the mind, and come back to being ourselves.

My amazement will never cease with regard to how nature provides us art on demand for those who take the time to observe. I photograph these impromptu works because this slate will be wiped clean tomorrow.

Walking outdoors with my camera, I found a bee near our Andromeda bush. The plant itself was an anniversary gift to my wife and me. It began as an ankle-high shrub and now matches my six-foot one-inch height.

This spring, the Andromeda has experienced explosive growth. The tiny flowers cover every visible part of it.

And this spring, the bees have come out. Bees that are as large as my thumb from the interphal

There is an old maxim about April showers and May flowers. We all know it. But here we see the results. Life sprouting forth from the ground. Insects seeking the life-giving drops of water. Fascinating.

There is a section of the Saugatucket River that meanders into Silver Spring Cove. Point Judith Pond is further beyond.

As the river travels it moves under roads and highways. I am standing on a bridge forming one of the residential roads.

On this early spring evening, the light is doing what the river does. It meanders. It is doing that thing where the sun ducks behind a cloud and reappears. S
