The adaptation of Matt Ruff's novel was highly successful for the cable outlet just like their Watchmen series the previous year. But HBO has decided to pull the plug on Misha Green's series before it could head into a second season. Green had apparently been working on ideas for a while for a new batch of episodes. However, the execs at HBO decided they'd rather not continue and keep the first season as its own entity. There were rumors that the second season would be filming in 2021, but that was never confirmed. Now, it's a done deal. HBO confirmed the news with Deadline today, stating that they're moving forward without Lovecraft Country as part of its upcoming lineup of original programming:We will not be moving forward with a second season of Lovecraft Country. We are grateful for the dedication and artistry of the gifted cast and crew, and to Misha Green, who crafted this groundbreaking series.
