It’s been a funny old week since I updated to WordPress 2.9, don’t get me wrong the new update is fantastic and some of the new features are extremely useful to use, but, and this is a big but, after installing the update, every time I made a post or used a ping back or trackback my WordPress blog would not ping or send pingbacks to other sites! blogging tips      wordpress 2.9      wordpress ping problems      All

MrCyberSmart avatar Great info. This has been the case before 2.9 just many people did not know that pingomatic was not working. I always change ping service in my dashboard after install, but in the end, pinging is rather dead as far as search. You could just remove it all to together and I doubt you would notice any difference. Google will come to the site when it wants to. Dinging a bell will not make Google jump to your site.

Thanks for the PHP. fix, this is great for those who are concerned about pinging. I was on a post the other day where this person was telling people to past all the ping services URLS in the field! I'm sure Google will love that! 50 pings at once! Lol

BlazingMinds avatar The problem was not only with pinging the rss feeds, it was also that I wasn't pinging sites that I had added into my posts, which meant I couldn't use pingbacks and trackbacks!

I have also known people to add every RSS ping service I only use a couple and made sure the ones I use don't ping the same services!
