UTEC And Agency FCB Create Plant-Powered Lamps For Peru Villages With No Electricity

Posted By fershid 1695 days ago on Technology - Nuevo Saposoa is a small town/village of the Shipibo-Conibo tribe, located in the eastern Amazonian region of Ucayali in Peru. The National Institute of Information and Statistics (INEI) reports that 65% of the population lacks access to electricity. After the flood in March, most of the cables were damaged or destroyed. Students use kerosene lamps which is bad for eyesight and lungs, because of the smoke inside.

Lima’s University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC) wanted to change things. In collaboration with agency FCB Mayo, they created a plant-powered plant lamp that uses the nutrients released into the soil during photosynthesis and converts it into electricity. Check it out here
