The question should be asked! With blog engage closing registrations should we start allowing anonymous voting?

This decision is actually pretty big… …

You might be asking your self why would we have to right? Well truth be told not many people will request an Invite to simply vote on an article.

So we will only have our members votes. We have a lot of people voting as you can clearly tell but to get even more votes for some other struggling bloggers this could be a great idea.

The major issue is cheating. I heard users can use proxies and vote for their selves over and over. This might in fact cause a large amount of spam to happen. Especially when only 10 votes is needed to reach the front page.

As always I would fully moderate the website ensuring to cheat like activity is occurring.

None the less this is your choice.

My vote is to keep it like it is. I like seeing who voted for me and I always make sure that I return the favor. I think it helps the community and a blogger’s network.

Personally, I also like the voting the way it is. I only WISH that everyone I voted for would reciprocate! Hah. But I like sending out some kudos to good posts.

I wonder about the proxy voting. My husband has a business blog and signed up to promote it here. He voted up a handful of posts. When I got on later that day I had a few posts I hadn’t voted on, but when I tried to vote, I was told I already voted. Huh?

Later we put it together that if he voted on something, I couldn’t vote on it. That kind of neutralized his desire to participate, since it seems we’re seen as one person and so his contribution to the community would be negligible. (Same for two of my adult daughters who are bloggers.)

I know there are more complex ways of cheating the system, but from what I could tell, it seems that even some legitimate members are blocked from full participation.

I agree with the other two who commented, voting should not be opened to anonymous, not even Digg allows anonymous voting for the voting fraud that can result. It is too easy to spoof, there needs to be tracking beyond just the “IP” that registered the vote.

Would it be possible to allow a junior registration of sorts to allow voting, prompting people who want to be new members to gain karma points towards a full registration? This way, we would still get votes from non-members but also working within the new invitation only model.

I agree I think leave voting open to only members it not like your making it really difficult to get an invite. I also like seeing who voted for me. I think even if you try to prevent cheating it will still occur. Anonymous voting in my oppion goes against the community aspects of what I think BlogEngage is all about.

By the way how many members do you have here?

    Voting for not voting anonymously.

The above comments explained every possible point of it. So be it as it is!

    Thanks for questioning :)

I think, voting, should only be done if you are registered. This is the only way to keep from spoofing the voting system.

No, you should’t allow that brian. It will decrease this BE reputation if you allow anonymous to vote.

Yeah this move will help to reduce spammers but there’s also some impacts. I’m seeing most of us here are loving it like it. It’s a big decision, Brian.
