In our ever-growing quest to come up with niche topics that stray from the same ole’- same ole’, I thought I’d do a little something that will both showcase Halloween and grasp onto a topic that is growing in popularity every day. If you want a really cool niche topic, go with The Paranormal. Because of all the ghost seeking shows and everyone who’s claiming to have had a visit from the “other” realm, this could bring in some serious traffic….if done correctly.

The Fiction Genre
Right now, the paranormal genre is one of the top selling in the entire fiction book scene. The thing about the paranormal is that it can be taken in a million different directions. For example, there is the Paranormal Romance genre, the Paranormal Historical genre, and one called MythPunk that is in a realm all it’s own. A site that either discussed the nuances of these genre, OR different sites and/or authors who wrote in this genre, could be huge.

Site Reviews
Because this is such a hot topic these days, it seems there are a lot of people trying to get in on this bandwagon. That doesn’t mean they’re all good. By setting up your own review site, you could find your own niche within a niche. Tell the world about the guys who’s claiming to talk to the spirit of Elvis. Or show your readers which of the paranormal book sites is worth checking out. Or do a review of any of the UFO sites online—like which ones rock and which ones should have been left as an idea.

Fact or Fake
I got this idea from the show on Sci-Fi. There are a lot of paranormal things out there that defy explanation. But there’s way more that is just plain fake. This would make a great website. Talk about the stories that have been proven to be fakes or the stories that have been proven to be real. Discuss ways to test these stories, or even do posts about some of the hoaxes that came about during the 18th and 19th centuries. (Did you know that Piltdown Man in England was a hoax?)

Myths and Legends
This is one of my all-time favorite subjects. I’m a legend junkie, so I’m always looking for sites that talk about this subject. Lets just say I know more about the religions of the ancient world than I do about American history. But the paranormal aspect of this lies within the stories themselves. Was there ever a real Chimera? Or a real Mokele Mbembe? Sailors from the ancient world spoke often of a creature called the Kraken, and now it looks as though this creature might be real in the form of the giant squid.

The paranormal field has a lot of different avenues and each one could be turned into a niche category of its own. And because it is such a popular subject, this one could bring in a lot of traffic and potentially a lot of money.

Very true, Paranormal field is very interesting and people are eager to know about facts. Discussion about paranomal stories which are facts and fakes has great potential to attract huge number of readers. But how one would find about any Paranormal story’s credibility that’s a big question.

That is a good question, and a great place to start in this field.
      Who would you talk to?
Where would you go to find the answers?
      Who’s trustworthy and who’s not?

Lot of questions could be answered in this one.

      Hey Meg,

I love the paranormal field. I never miss the ghost show on sci-fi (though I can’t stand the one on travel channel). And there are a lot of people out there who just can’t seem to get enough.

      Thanks for stopping by

Paranormal is a big time field around this time of year when everyone is open to things that are a little bit…. different.

It is difficult to say how “realistic” many of these ideas are (or are not) but the bottom line is that they are almost always “fun” and supplying some fun ideas is something you cannot really go wrong with.

    Hey Steve

It is cool to do this kind of thing around this time of year, but there are a lot of people out there who go for this kind of thing year round, especially where the paranormal books are concerned. I know of several sites that do nothing but review fictional paranormal and they thousands of followers.

But fun is always good. LOL
Thanks for stopping in. Always happy to see you in the comments!

    Christine,

You are amazing at your ability to come up with awesome ‘niches’. Makes me wish I had the time to pursue this one. However, I’ve got a few books under my lid and need to get them out first. Great article! Sally

      Hey Sal,

Yeah I got pretty excited about this one myself. So, I’m working on something along these lines as we speak. LOL. I’ll let you in on it as soon as it’s ready. :)

I totally agree. To illustrate my point, although I am not a big fan of the shows Ghost Whisperer and Supernatural I am still hooked. They are really quite addictive. When I am bored and I have nothing to do, I look up mysteries and legends online. The Paranormal will always have its crowd and will find readership in enthusiasts and the curious, bored lot alike.

      Hey Reese,

I’m a huge fan of Ghost Hunters and Fact or Faked on Sci/Fi channel. Never watched Supernatural, but loved Ghost Whisperer. This is a niche that will always have a following, no matter what time of year it is.

(dang, now I gotta watch supernatural to see what I’m missing. LOL)

      Thanks for commenting!!!

    Hmm, very interesting article here.

I know of at least one blogger that is doing an entire paranormal series of articles for Halloween. So far they’ve been very interesting and fun. I was also recently featured in a paranormal ghost blog Carnival, which led to me getting some pretty good traffic, especially for a blog carnival.

The paranormal as a niche in general seems like a great idea. I think just about everyone is interested in that.

      Hey Fred,

I’ve never heard of a paranormal Ghost carnival, but you definitely have my curiosity peaked. May have to come over and check that one out. And I don’t know about everyone being interested in this niche, but I do know that there are a LOT of them that are.

      Thanks for stopping by.

This niche I think is seasonal and good during Halloween season. But you know, it’s a some kind of a an interesting niche. I just don’t like some fakers who use paranormal by such editing photos.

This is a good post. Liked it.

      Hey Kira

This isn’t just a seasonal niche, this is something that goes on all the time and has for a very long time. Think about it, Charles Dickens wrote a book in the 19th century called A Christmas Carol which is about ghosts. Ghost stories are told around campfires throughout the world during the summer months. And nearly every ancient culture had a special holiday in the spring for the spirits of the forests.

And as for faking pictures, I agree that this isn’t cool but the truth is, people having been faking the paranormal for as long as it’s been discussed.

I love all things paranormal. I spend time cruising paranormal sites, looking at photos posted online and trying to decide if they’re real or not, watching every “ghost show” on TV and I even started my own paranormal blog earlier this year.

I started off using a free blog at wordpress.com, but finally bought a domain name and what not in October. I started the blog just for fun, and have gotten pretty steady traffic without a huge jump in numbers around Halloween. I think the paranormal niche is a good one to get into for year round viewership.
