Blog Engage is hosting a 45 day SEO keyword challenge and all members are welcomed to join in the fun.
In no way is this meant to be a competition but if any members decide to select the same keywords to rank for you may end up seeing each other fight for top spot.
The goal of the challenge is simple; select a word and rank within the top 5 spots in Google for it but within 45 days. This can be a keyword or keyword phrase.
Don’t overshoot your target. Make it simple enough so you can achieve success. Anyone interested in participating make sure to leave a comment here.
We will allow the challenge to go a full 45 days. This will give us ample time to reach the first page of Google assuming we pick realistic keywords.
How to select your keywords
How it works.
1. Write an article about the challenge on your blog.
2. In the article state the keyword you will be trying to rank for.
3. Link back to our 45 day SEO Keyword challenge in your article. (optional)
4. Post a reply here with letting us know you will be participating.
5. Join the forum discussions and share your ideas
6. Help one another find ways to rank higher if we are having issues.
When does it start?
I would like to market and promote the idea a little and give our members time to pick the keywords. I was hoping to start the challenge within the next 48 hours. The challenge will run from Friday May 15th 2010 to Monday June 31st 2010.

Well I hope to join in on this one as I could do with ranking my new SEO Tools site (listed above for my first link on the new keyword comp :p).
Not sure how well I will do in this though as I have many other sites to do SEO for as its my 9-5 job so don’t tend to get much time to work on my own sites these days
but we will see.
I will be working on keyword “Free SEO Blog” which has 720 Global Monthly Searches and is reasonably competitive so should be fun to try and get a listing for it
I’m currently position 219 for “free seo blog” on google so lets try and see what I can get done in 45 days starting tomorrow morning.

Common guys all you got to do is pick a keyword you want to rank for (it can be anything you like from any niche as this is just a bit of fun).
We have a thread open on the forums ready for this so I think it would be nice for those that are taking part to post the following info in that thread so you can all learn from each other:
Your Keyword (Keyword Suggestion Tool,
You URL/site,
Your current possiton for your choosen keyword,
And how many search it gets (use https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal for this)

Hey Brian! Very cool. 45 days is a long time. lol Any one of us can do this! In fact, some of us could be ranked and outranked within a 45 day span! Are we going to be tracking weekly in the forums?
Also, note that there are differences in Google ranking by country. It’s probably good to decide on a base measure – either all using Google.com (rather than google.co.uk for example) or Market Samurai or something else to determine where we are in the ranks. Those 11th and 12th spots can fluctuate a lot and make all the difference!

Hey Tia great points! I’m so happy you will be participating with us. OK so here’s what I think and maybe some others can weigh in. I think it’s okay for the individual to rank in any country they wish. Personally I will be trying to rank for Google.com
I really don’t see anything wrong with letting the blogger decide. perhaps for the final results we should be using google.com ?

You’re right. It should be up to the Blogger. Maybe if we can outline (1) exact URL we’re trying to rank (2) search engine trying to rank in, that will help. Like you said, it’s more about learning and fun and less about competition!
Any other guidelines? Can you tell I am left-brained? lol I’m so mathematical about things sometimes.
