Hi everyone I would like to welcome you to our social spotlight with Murray Newlands from Murray Newlands Dot Com.

This spotlight is very exciting as Murray shares his secrets and success stories with us.

Murray is a successful online entrepreneur and is here to answer my questions for us all to learn from.

So without waiting anymore I would like to welcome everyone to our social spotlight with Mr. Murray Newlands.

Brian: Hi There Murray and welcome to our social spotlight. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. Please take a moment and introduce yourself to our members.

Murray: My name is Murray Newlands and I run a blog called Murraynewlands.com it is a marketing blog and I cover a variety of topics from affiliate marketing events to seo blogging and green marketing.

Brian: This is great because most of our members here at blog engage will find yourself and blog very interesting. We are always looking for marketing and blogging tips. Please do tell us why you started blogging in the first place I think many of our members would like to know more.

Murray: I started blogging this spring 2009 and post once or more every day. I love blogging. My blog has grown to over 1000 page views per day and I have made lots of blogging friends around the world.  I started when I was asked to work on a social media project for a friend and then I went to a show and meet two bloggers there. One of them was a new friend Heather Smith from  and the other was an old friend Steve Hall.

Brian: I love hearing why people started blogging I always find it so interesting. I think one of the most unique aspects of blogging is the ability to meet people from all around the world without actually leaving the comfort of your own home. Take a minute and tel the blog engage members something unique you offers your readers when visiting your blog.

Murray: I interview lots and lots of bloggers so if you want to know lots about other bloggers, what motivates them and what they are up to then my blog is the place to read. I also go to lots of shows and events and post about what is coming up, what is on and what happened where so cover a lot of industry information. I am now also reviewing social media monitoring tools.

Brian: I was just visiting your blog today before I started preparing the interview. I think you really have something special going on over there and loved your you tube introduction. I think this is a great way to build that first impression on your visitors. Anything great example of this is Don Powers. I just loved his you tube video it’s amazing! So tell our members, how do you find new readers, where do you market your blog?

Murray: I get a good response from Twitter but I also market my blog on other blogs via guest posting. Lots of the bloggers I interview link back to their interviews, they also twitter them and Facebook link them. This has a big viral effect for my blog.  I do now also get lots of traffic from sites like blogengage.com and other blogging sites. People tend to link to some of my content.

Brian: It seems you area true marketer and don’t spend to much time in one single place at a time. I also try to take advantage of many social communities including facebook and twitter. I’ve recently started guest blogging as well and it’s been an amazing experience. If you had to name some of your favorite blogging communities what would you say?

Murray: Well I have 29,000 followers on Twitter, and my Facebook Fan page has over 850 fans.  I am also a big fan of the problogger forum as well as Bloggeries.

Brian: I know it’s been sometime since we spoke about this interview so I updated the amount of twitter followers you had originally stated. It’s amazing how many connections you have maned to make on twitter I think I only have 2000 followers. I don’t know how you do it. Look from everything you have learned online to date what would you recommend to the average blog engage member?

Murray: Read some of the better blogs about there about blogging. Get to know some blogging buddies who can exchange tips and help you, want to know more Google blogging buddies. Learn to be great at SEO, if you can do it yourself it can save you a lot of pain and time.
