They are explosive, spreading fast and disruptive. Google +1, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or any social media site as they are known have created a new world of opportunities where anything is possible. For example Facebook has more than 700 million users worldwide bigger than more countries in the world, although slightly less than the population of India.
Sometimes back, most companies blocked the said social sites because they stole the attention of workers. But lately the fad has shifted to this medium and former haters are joining the bandwagon. These social media sites are live and rich with opportunities for bloggers to harvest those communities and get a hold of those eyeballs and market their services as well as creating relationships.
The world of business is now immersing itself into the social networking both for external and internal communications. One of the great things about social media is that you can develop relationships with people without actually meeting them.
Social media forces you to go on your prospects wavelength and genuinely talk to their benefit. Use of social site has to be aligned to the overall business objective so as to reap benefits.
As a blogger you need to remember that the many young people on social media sites today are going to be the mature and able consumers of tomorrow, and as such every forward looking blogger needs to embrace and exhaustively use social sites to build their online reputation and engage the masses consistently.
Social media is a powerful and viral communication tool for brands to reach their customers for major bloggers announcements or campaign messages for new products. Facebook alone has over 700 million users globally. This is a massive opportunity to sell more products and services as well as engaging with existing and prospective customers.
By engaging in social media, your blog can re-position itself as being progressive and responsive compared to other popular blogs within your niche. You can use these fabrics to connect to your customers in a meaningful way, whether it’s educational content on YouTube or selling the latest deals on twitter.
You can use sentiment analysis to identify issues with your bland and products in order to proactively solve your customers issues. These networking sites can help you monitor your visitor’s trends for potential research and development benefits and analyze industry’s social stream.
From my own experience, if you integrate the social media strategy, you can have the potential to build your brand loyalty, ownership and a strong connection with your customers. While many influential bloggers are quick to measure their return on investments (ROI) on their social media efforts, it should not always be the guiding factor but rather it should be on improving brand positioning by having more people talk about the brand.
If people don’t talk about you or about your blog, it means you are off their radar and you aren’t important and don’t matter to them. From my own experience, the starting point should be developing a strategy since creating a Facebook or twitter account is not enough.
You need to understand that using social media strategy, you need to plan and execute proper marketing activities. With a clear road map, your blog will be bound to not only achieve a great following but also it will be able to know what your visitors think and want from your services or products. A good example is Adidas Basketball blog. The blog exudes a love for the basketball game. There are pictures and videos of celebrity athletes endorsing the latest and coolest gear.
However, internet security experts warn that as individuals and blog owners jump into their social media sites, there are a number of evils that come along. While social networking sites connects millions of people around the world, they provide an easily exploited platform for cyber criminals to operate on.
The thing these social media applications have in common is that they all want you to upload information into them and this attracts malicious content. Searching for breaking trends and current news represents a higher risk than searching for objectionable content. Take extra precaution when searching for hot topics on the web since there is likelihood to click on a malicious link masked by a legitimate site name and this can put your blog at risk.
From my own experience you should use YouTube to build a following by posting its video advertisements, thus attracting numerous views and reviews which will make your blog or brand more visible on the internet. If you want to turn the millions of internet users into loyal fans of your blog without losing your blog reputation, then you should think of using social media sites.

I agree. I think slowly businesses are having a paradigm shift where it comes to social media. Most small and nimble businesses are onboard already taking advantage of it and the larger ones are getting ready to jump in with both feet (for those who are not entirely invested yet).
Businesses avoid social media at their own peril these days.

I am real estate agent; 98% of property buyers in Sweden begin their search on the internet.
We only use Internet as our main marketing channel. By the Social media; Facebook, Google, Plus, etc. in combination with our own Website do we find all potential customers.
We have now started with YouTube, and it starts to act well now, another great social media.
