We all know that time is the hardest obstacle to over come when blogging. We do our best to comment on as many blogs as possible while still putting the right amount of time and effort into our own blogs.

Were always looking for ways to save time and today in this article I’m going to help you all save time in the long run.

If you go on the main Blog Engage website right now and look at my affiliate links you will see I have created a sub directory for each 125 banner ad.

The entire process is actually very easy. First you want to open a note pad and enter the following code into it. Remember for each of your referrals you have to add your affiliate code where it says “myaffiliatelink”.

Now in your root folder on your server create a folder named recommends. Inside this folder you will create your folders specific to each affiliate you will be linking to. See the picture below.

Inside each specific affiliate folder will be your individual index.php files with your affiliate linking code. This is also seen in the image below. This is going to save you a lot of time when updating affiliate links in the future.

Now repeat this process for every affiliate link you have on your website. I know this can be a long process but it’s worth the effort because in the future this will be even more of a pain.

Now whenever I want to use that specific affiliate I simply type the following url in my posts and on my websites. Now you will change the /blogohblog/ to match the affiliate you want to link to.

Cool. Knowing this could save people a ton of money on a script that does this same thing. lol This is very useful. Thanks!

Thats one way of doing it. But its time consuming to do it for each of your affiliate link – especially if you’ve got a lot. The best way I think is to get a wordpress theme which supports cloaking like Thesis or get a plugin

Hi Stefan, I would have to disagree with you. Purchasing a theme to manage your affiliate links is ridiculous. This might provide a quick fix but if you ever plan on getting a new theme again in the future you will be faced with many more issues. Your best bet is to do what I say, do it once and your good to go.

I would never recommend a theme to manage affiliate links.

Thanks – this could be a real time saver. But will you please clarify:
    1. What is your blog’s URL?
    2. What will be in the index.php file?

Hi Tom I’m a bit confised on your reply. The contents of the index.php file will be this replaced by your affiliate url.

Your blog url is not needed.

Hey Brian, can you tell me what is the real advantage of this for the person that is clicking on the ad? How does this make the links more appealing to readers?

I’ve found I get many more clicks on a link that ends in /go/affiliateproduct or /recommends/affiliateproduct than if I was to use an ugly or long URL that some affiliate programs use (Amazon Associate links are a perfect example).

Out of the IM and MMO niche people are a lot more trusting of a branded URL than a URL that is lengthy and contains elements such as ?=ref:12312=ref+tag:myamazingblog.

The benefit to using the certain software that does this is that some come complete with click-tracking and other data that is useful if you have a multitude of affiliate programs that you are promoting.

        Regards,

        Karl

Many many thanks for the article and your “comment and follow” campaign that leads me to this post. As I don’t want to use more plugin on my blog and edit the .htaccess file, I have to save all affiliate links in a text file, it is kind of messy now. I don’t know there is such a simple way to manage affiliate links like this.
    Thanks.
