Making your blog posts go viral is the dream of most bloggers.

Wouldn’t you like it if your blog posts went viral? Yes you would.

I have written blog posts that has got lots of views and comments from my readers. I am still getting traffic to these articles and still receiving lovely comments from these readers. I will conclude that those blog posts has gone viral because of the amount of visibility they have got. Making your blog post go viral means that your post is targeted to a specific set of people who has had some benefit to them. Most viral posts are gets targeted traffic which appeals to your readers.

In this blog post I will show you how to make your blog posts go viral.

search

Do Some Research

Before you start writing your article, take about 20 minutes and do some research even before you come up with the blog title. Why should you do this? If you do research before you put the pen to the paper this will help to broaden your knowledge about the subject a little more. Doing research helps us to come up with great headlines, write great content and with detailed information.

News

Create Convincing Headlines

The first thing that a readers sees when he/she comes across your articles are the headlines. You have to create convincing headlines which makes this person wants to read more about your article. Eye catching headlines are the best way to catch your reader’s attention to get them to read more. You have to give an overview of what the article is about in the headline, this determines if your visitor will want to continue reading this article.

Introduction

Pay Attention To Your Introduction

Your introduction to your blog post is the first few words that your readers will see before getting into the detailed part of the post and this is very important for you to write introduction that traps your readers minds. If you came across a site that has some articles you thought you would enjoy reading, but the introduction to that article is very boring, long and drawn out. Would you continue to even go another sentence further? I hardly think so.

Your introduction to your blog post is giving your readers the reason why they should read the full article. So the next time you write, remember why you placed an introduction at the start of your blog post.

Pen and Book

Write Excellent Content

Your blog’s design have little or no effect on your blog readers. They don’t come to your blog to view your theme or to look at your logo. The reason why you have people coming to your blog is because of the contents that you have written.

Writing excellent content can help to make your blog post go viral. As the saying goes in the blogosphere “Content Is King”. Without the content on our blog then we will have no readers, which means no post going viral.

Chart and Pen

Write Detailed Blog Posts

Along with excellent content, you have to make sure that your blog post is well detail with information to satisfy your readers wants and needs. Writing a complete detailed blog full of information is the most important thing that makes a blog post go viral. Giving the full details/information to satisfy your readers is the way to keep them coming back for more.

This will also make your readers want to share your articles with others who share the same interest. When these interested ones come to this particular article that you have written, they will also want to share what they have read with others, which makes your blog post going super viral.

Words

Remember Your Keywords

Another way to make your blog posts go viral is by getting the traffic from search engines. In order to do this you have to write for page ranks on search engine results. You have to make sure you use keywords in the appropriate meta tag, use SEO friendly URL and also use specific keywords in blog titles.

Meta Tags – Tags that gives a description to your blog.

Example: <meta name="keywords" content="KEYWORDS GO HERE" />

SEO Friendly URL – This means you include phrases of keywords in your URL.

SEO Friendly URL

http://www.blogengage.com/blogger/how-to-make-your-blog-posts-go-viral

No SEO Friendly URL

http://www.blogengage.com/blogger/?p=9442

Specific Keywords In Blog Titles – This means you use phrases or words that people would normally search for in search engines. This will help you to rank higher in search engine results.

birds

Original Is Always The Best

If you know that there is a particular article on a blog that has gone viral, do not make a duplicate of it. There is no way that your duplicate will ever go viral. You might get a small amount of readers to that post but there is no way that it will be ever great like the original. This is the reason why I said that “Original Is Always The Best” and this is always true no matter where you go.

Making copies of other people’s information is called stealing and this will get you nowhere. You will rank lower in search engine results, when others come across your article and know that this was posted on another blog they will stop coming to your blog, when you start losing your blog visitors then you start losing interest in blogging and then before you know it your blog will be erased from the blogosphere.

Help

Write “How To” Posts

Most of the times the blog posts that goes viral are the ones that start with “How To”. Why is that? Well most of the time people want to find tutorial articles to help solve their problems faster.

Remember at the start of this article I told you to “do some research”? If you research and see what problems people have, then this is the best way to target these people by writing and solving their problems. This will help you to get targeted traffic making your blog post go viral.

So writing tutorial posts can make your blog post go viral.

Social Media Networking

Use Social Media Sites

Everyone in the blogosphere knows that traffic can be directed to your blog post by using social media/social bookmarking sites. This is also one of the best ways to make your blog post go viral and that’s by using social media sites.

social media is one important thing you need to make articles go viral and in the long run they help to rank in search engines as well, it is not necessarily about the content but it is about how to market that content to the outer world

    Hey Kharim,
Writing “How To” Posts which your researched deeply with good keyword optimization and then sharing them via social networks while also bookmarking it on some services for some links it’s definitely a win.
The best thing is that How To’s can be applied way after you forgot you even wrote such an article, which can bring traffic practically indefinitely.

    Hey Kharim,

You’ve outlined some excellent points here.

I’d like to say I try to follow all but I know the BIG one that I should work on some more. And that’s “Remember Your Key Words”.

I do fill in the meta tags, but until recently, I pretty much gave my posts names which I thought were more attractive instead of more functional. I’m working on that and making more of an effort – even if it means the title may be a bit more boring lol.

I also couldn’t agree more with your point about writing detailed posts. If you’re only gonna’ give them half or parts of the info – then why bother? Unless it’s a kind of ongoing series.

As for the “How To” posts – well, those are a given. People are curious by nature. Plus they’re usually idiot proof instructions that are hopefully easy to read and try out – unless if it’s some ridiculously outrageous activity hehe. Then as the old saying goes, “don’t try this at home!”

Nice job on this post. You’ve practiced what you preach – which gives this article all the more credibility. Always good to see people exercising their own advice :) .

Best of luck in the contest.
    Cheers

To understand keyword usage better, I love reading other’s posts to see how they are applying keyword usage. Your content here is very beneficial, and again, we need to be reminded constantly of the ‘how-to’s.’ Great coverage and thanks for sharing your knowledge/experience with blogger world. I just heard another tip the other day regarding keyword usage: If your total word count is 400, keyword usage should be at least 2% which means keywords or phrases should show up in content at least 8 times. I’m working with that little gem now so that I can do it naturally.

    Hey Kharim,

Writing content on your blog definitely has to be of quality. Regardless of the length of the article, there has to be useful information in it. Long articles can run into trouble of being lengthy with lots of unnecessary elaboration but lacking in useful content. I think the most important thing is to get your points across without sounding like you’re yakking away or beating around the bush before coming to the point.

Great list of tips there Kharim. Good luck on the blog contest!

Thanks for the comment Bryan. Great point as well. Long posts can cause trouble for you and your blog. Its best to write short posts full of information, and if you have more that you want to it you can do a follow up post. So you can turn one long post into 2 useful posts packed with information. :) Thanks for the support man :)

Writing a good content has been an so obvious thing, not only in creating viral post, but also in other areas. My point is, if you have great content, you will be successfully in everything. From selling stuff online to making a lot of money in blogging world.

Although there’re no distinct definition for the good content, I still think a good content should at least, answer some questions for readers or solve some problems. That way you can assure that maybe your content is not good, readers still get something in the end, right? :)

You know I think it is impossible to give a formula for making a blog post go viral. if you look at content that has truly gone viral it’s got almost nothing in common except one thing – people find it entertaining. Truly viral content will appeal to a very large demographic! I think that is one of the biggest keys.

Great points, although I have to disagree a bit on the design having no effect. I have seen some blogs who have average to mediocre content that go supernova in popularity due to having a fantastic design, and alternatively, I have seen some blogs that have really awesome content go no where because their design looks like it came out of the 90′s.

I like to think of it as an interview for a corporate job. You have two candidates walking through the door – one in a sharp business suit, and the other in ripped jeans and a t-shirt. Even if the latter is a bit more qualified than the one in the suit, the first impression goes a long way, and just the visual of t-shirt in jeans makes you think the person doesn’t care enough to invest in a proper presentation, so how can they invest enough into their job? Just like if a blog has a heinous or user-unfriendly design, how can you get past that to the content?

That being said, the thing I love most about your post is the research part. I think if people researched what is already out there when it comes to topics they want to write about, they will be able to get an insight to what is going to be unique. Bonus if they look at similar post comments to see what readers are asking and answer those questions in your post.
