Traffic is the backbone of any website on the internet. It doesn’t matter what you sell or who you are, if you are not getting good traffic to your website, you can not make the best out of your website. Below are some ways to generate free traffic to your website.
Article Submission: Article submission is a way of generating free traffic to your website, all you have to do is write an article and submit to some of the major article directories. Some things to consider when submitting your website to article directories are.
- i. Do not submit an article to more than 10 article directories
- ii. Only submit to major directories
- iii. Write only quality articles
- iv. Use your anchor text effectively when writing your articles.
There are to methods of article submission, one is via article sites while the other is via article directories. Article sites are the one that pay you to submit your articles while article directories don’t, article sites approve your articles within 24 hours while article directories can take up to a week. Example of articles sites are Helium.com, Associatedcontent.com while Ezinearticles.com and Articlebase.com are great examples of article directories.
Forum Posting: Posting on relevant forums in your niche can also be a method to generate free traffic to your website. Even though forum posting generates traffic, it has some rules guiding it. Here are some forum posting rules:
- i. Be a helpful forum member
- ii. Do not spam the forum
- iii. Only post your link when you are saying anything related to your site
- iv. Link out to other websites in your niche so that forum members don’t see you as a spammer.
Directory submission: Submitting your website to high quality directories like dmoz and Yahoo directory will surely bring you some free traffic, it will also help you improve your search engine rankings.
Social bookmarking: Submitting your site to social bookmarking sites like Digg, stumbleupon, reddit and some other popular social bookmarking sites will surely bring traffic to your website. You have to be careful when submitting to social bookmarking sites, only submit your best articles, and don’t submit junk articles as this will only affect your reputation. Also try to submit other relevant in your niche as this makes you more of an authority on the social bookmarking sites.
Video sites: Creating and uploading funny, interesting and tutorial based videos to video sites such as Youtube, metacafe and vimeo will surely help you boost your website traffic, all you have to do is make sure the videos are of quality and that you include your link in it and in the description, it is also very important to give your video a very attractive headline.

Hi Onibalusi, thanks so much for taking the time and guest posting on our blog. I love the suggestions you’re making regarding free web traffic. Personally I’ve never tried article submissions sites but what’s more important about this tip is not only do you share how to you also share what not to do. I would of had no clue to limit my article submission to 10 sites.
I created some videos but I’ve only uploaded them to you tube I should try some other media websites like you suggested.
