Memberships, RSS, Blog Engage

Over the past four years one of the largest issues I’ve seen with the majority of social networks is how members vote on content without engaging with the author/blogger.

I’m challenging all our Blog Engage members to stop doing this. It is simply wrong to login to a social community and vote on all your friends articles without visiting and engaging with them on their blog.

When we login to Blog Engage we have many great blog articles to look at and visit. When we vote on one of these articles it should mean we either, visited the blog, commented or socially shared the blog article on some level. If the blog was not engaged then you don’t vote for it. This is Blog Engage baby and in order to get a vote your blog has to be engaged.

How to engage a blog?

1. Visit the blog and view the article
2. Visit the article and tweet or share it on facebook
3. Visit the blog, read the content and comment on the article

These are true forms of engagement so next time you vote on an article at Blog Engage make sure you have some level of engagement with that blogger. Trust me they will appreciate it a lot more then a bunch of random votes which many other social community members doing.

For example if you follow me on twitter you will see every blogger I vote for I have engaged with to some level. I’ve visited their blog, commented or socially shared their articles on my favorite websites such as facebook or twitter. Try and make your vote count for something so the blogger has a much larger appreciation for it.

Blog Engage is all about building relationships but more importantly it’s about going to the bloggers site and engaging with them. Engage with your friends, tweet, share on facebook and comment on their blog. When you engage with the blogger then you can vote for their content.

Blog Engage allows you to submit your Blog Article(s) that will be placed in queue and promoted by our members to the front page. The ideal of Blog Engage is to promote interaction between bloggers by “Engaging” with each others blogs. Interaction that builds up quality comments and interactive discussions.

Do not log in and just vote for friends, go and engage with these bloggers and when that’s done come back and vote for them. This has much more meaning and trust me our members will appreciate the engagement a lot more then some random votes.

Have to say I admire what you’re trying to do here Brian.

Whether any online community can ever fully live up to the ideals you’re aiming for I doubt, but there’s no harm in giving it a shot…

Have to say I don’t always do what you’ve described here. There are some bloggers – whom I’ve connected with and read many posts from – whom I will vote for if I see a submissions and like the topic and title – even if I don’t have time to read the post right then and there.

Thing is there are some bloggers whom I know would neither publish nor submit anything without it being of quality and value.

However I do align with what you’re outlining as ‘right voting’ by reading as much as possible, and always getting to know blog and bloggers I haven’t yet connected with.

Thing is (I’m sure this applies to everyone in this community) I don’t have time to read all the posts that interest me, but I’d still like to support quality blogging with my vote even in such instances.

Thanks for laying out these guidelines for your vision of blog engagement here Brian.

Jym, owning a website is not easy. You have to make decisions that better the majority of it’s members and I think this drastic change in the way we vote for one another will bring real honor and integrity to the authors that get published.

Now when we vote we have engaged not only helping the other blogger with traffic but also comments, tweets and other social votes on sites we use. I have this attitude already so everything I vote for on blog engage has been tweeted commented on or socially engaged some way by me. If not I simply don’t vote and that should be the mentality of our entire community. This is a natural engagement that happens to one person and isn’t excerpted in return.

    Hi Brian,

I was reading Hesham’s (Famous Bloggers.net), article on this subject. Since he referenced you, I followed up. I’m a relatively new freelancer and blogger, and one of the rules I’ve learned, but sometimes I feel as though my comments are so menial (like now). Ironically, I love it when I get a comment that spurns me to reply. Guess I should take a little bit of my own medicine, huh?

So-thanks, again, for a needed reminder for those of us who come to the well and drink. Leaving a comment and sharing with others is fare enough.

I’ll admit the last couple of days I’ve come in and just voted and not really engaged, but I have at least read the articles I’m voting for. Thanks for the engagement reminder!

I have a rule; if I read an article I always leave a comment to show my appreciation to the author. There is nothing worse than working hard on an article, only to find that it has 1000s of views but little to no comments or shares. At the very least, comments telling me why the article didn’t inspire the reader are appreciated. Most of my traffic on one of my sites comes from other bloggers; so I make a point of sharing useful content with them. What you are doing here is great, Brian.

It’s fair enough to engage first before voting. I like your principle Brian. It’s really nice to see a blog post or article that has meaningful comments.
