1000 USD 2011 Best Guest Blogger Contest Article Approved

Each of us as bloggers want to write blog posts that stands out, whether you are writing it for your blog or contributing it as a guest post. Writing excellent blog posts often depends upon us the blogger/author of the blog post.

Here are some things to help you write excellent blog posts.

Researching for your new blog posts is the first thing to do before you start writing. Before I started this blog post I was reading a book on how to do research before writing. I read through the chapter and thought about what I wanted to write for 3 days. Yes, 3 days! I didn’t want to rush into writing this article because I want to make sure it was well put together.

Before you start writing you should have knowledge about your topic and have an idea of how you want your blog post to turn out. You can do research by reading and asking questions to get more information.

Before writing my new blog posts I like to search for similar posts so that I don’t write as if I am duplicating the authour of that article. After searching for articles which are similar, I try my best to read through the article so that when I am writing my main points are different and write my blog posts in a different style so that my article stands out more, and make more impact on my blog readers.

Getting search engine traffic is really great and that is the reason why optimizing your blog posts for search engine traffic is a must. I see a lot of bloggers saying that they don’t write for SEO or they are not really interested in SEO. Well I am different, I have to make sure that my articles are optimized for search engines.

I try my very best to write for SEO and at the same time write to please my readers. This has been working out because my blog readers always like my style of writing and also what I write about.

When optimizing your blog posts you have to make sure use keywords which describes your blog posts. This will give you an advantage in ranking in search engine results for that particular keyword. Another thing to do is to target a particular keyword and use it in your blog posts as much as possible. Use the keyword in your sub-headings and place them in H1, H2 and H3 tags.

When I had just became a new blogger, I used to write my blog posts and publish them without re-reading what I had written. Of course there are plugins which you can use to proof read your blog posts which checks if there are any grammatical error. But the plugin doesn’t tell you that your blog posts are well written and that your readers will benefit greatly by reading it.

You have to make sure that you read your own blog posts just like you were a visitor of your own blog. Read your blog posts and make sure that your main points stand out, make sure that your blog posts are beneficial to everyone who reads it and make sure that your blog posts encourage your readers to share the article with others.

This article was written to help you write blog posts in a much better way.

Please comment and let the Blog Engage community know; how do you go about writing new blog posts?

Hi Kharim, I usually research my blog posts, especially if I’m doing a tutorial. Using video or other multi-media is a great way to distinguish your post from the others that are out there. Great tips Kharim. Thanks!

      Hi Ileane,

I know you like to do video tutorials and you are very great at it. That’s something I want to do, video blogging and tutorials as well. I will start maybe later this year.

Ileane, would you say that doing research makes you a better blogger? And what are the benefits you get when you do a complete research?

Kharim, that’s a great question. Honestly, I do some research but not on every post. For example, the other day I did an interview with another blogger (Stella Anokam) and since I had visited her blog before I didn’t feel the need to research anything. Actually the blog post itself was research (guess I just realized that) :)
On the other hand, the post I did for this Blog Engage contest was ALL ABOUT RESEARCH and I spent a lot of time doing it (weeks in fact). Hopefully it will pay off in the end if I win a prize or at least attract some new readers to my blog.

I went through your blog and honestly am impressed with the way you write, along with the expertise you have about the market I would want to see more of your blogs. I work with Franchise India and lately met you at the event also, I was wondering whether you would be keen on becoming a columnist with our website. Would wait for your response.

Very well said Buddy! I strongly agree with you more on the SEO aspect. I believe that the effort would be nothing if only a few of your friends could find your blog post. It is really good to have a lot of readers for us to get the diversity of ideas from the different perspectives of the different people around the globe. It would be more fun and well researched then. :-)

I am sorry to say this Kharim but I am a bit disappointed!

You’re article title is in partial argue with your content. The intro was good, then in your body you were supposed to deliver tricks for us, readers, to have a better research for new blog articles. Only one was on the subject. The last 2 were tips on how to improve content and visibility in search engines.

You’re article is good I don’t argue on that, you deliver information, but not the one you promised to. The title of an article if a promise and you haven’t kept yours.

Not to mention the information you offered has already been discussed and written about over and over again. It’s no new content. I’ve just read you blog article from Ilean’s BBT: “Honestly, you blog post taught me absolutely nothing.” so I’ve expected a lot more from someone who wrote about this.

You’ve just done a mistake you’ve written about,

I’m sorry if I disappointed you :( But I really appreciate you taking the time to read my post and also to leave a comment.

No Kharim, I am not disappointed by YOU.

Your article is good, well structured, easy to read, interesting, offers valuable info for blog-starters. I’ve seen you blog also and must say I am impressed.

The only things you’ve mistaken with is setting some expectations and delivering smt else.

Your article is perfect for blog starters (even I am one, but I already knew what you talked about), but an “I already knew that” for experienced bloggers. You can’t please everyone. Trying to do so will end up pleasing no one.

        So, overall GOOD JOB! :)

You mentioned good points. I’ve never really tried posting without re-reading my post all over. I also do not trust proofreading plugins to check for errors on my post. Why? I don’t post in a hurry so there’s no reason for not re-reading it. By not re-reading it, you really aren’t making sure you’re making a good post. I enjoyed re-reading my post because after that, I’ll be busy reading the comments.

However, I’ve never really posted something for the sake of SEO so I do not really check the keywords or so whatever requirement is for SEO’s sake. Though I know it’s an important part for pro bloggers. Also, I’m not checking for duplicates as most part of each post I make came from my ideas, and my wording. It depends, if you’re posting a news or event, most likely you’ll find something similar to yours. Only the structure shall differ.

Also, I don’t really think the longer you spent on the research, the better your post is. Majority of my posts I spent 2-5 hours of focused writing. Well, it all differs among us. :)

This is a really great article! I started blogging years ago when the internet was just an infant. I still have very basic blog templates and a slightly rudimentary approach to blogging.

I am going to take some of this advice and maybe give my blog a makeover. In all honesty – I have never made the leap to WordPress because I’ve always been comfortable on Blogger. Should I change? I would probably have to get hosting for my blog and all of that stuff.

Do search engines prefer on blogging platform over another?

    Thanks for the tips!

      Thanks for the comment Will.

I think WordPress is a great blogging platform and you should use it if you can afford hosting and domain name. I used to use Blogger but my blog got deleted and thats when I started using WordPress.

I don’t know if search engines prefer another platform over another, but all you have to do if you want to show up in search engine results is to use the keywords which best describes your blog.

So Will, are you going to make a switch with your blog?

Hello Kharim. I also take a couple days before a guest post. When it’s for a big blog, it takes me weeks to settle on topic and ideas. I want each one to be prefect, for that blog. I do a lot of reading of blog to comment on them, so I get a feel for what’s going on in the blogoshphere and write accordingly.

To truly be successfull at SEO, one has to write pretty intensive. Alt tags, rel=nofollow… etc. So I don’t write a lot of SEO focused posts. Your post about re-reading the post is very important.

Anyway, how do you get your heading into bars like you have here? Good luck with the comp.
