How I Earned $1,700 Online for One Day, Tips for Newbie Bloggers
Earning $1,700 from AdSense is easy for probloggers, but for an amateur blogger like me, it was quite an achievement. That is the story I would like to share with you in this post.
When I first started blogging, making money online was farthest from my mind. I was surfing online for reference materials for my dissertation on Computer Aided Instructions (CADs) when I came across a link which invited me to create a blog. Since I got curious if it could help me with my paper, I decided to start a personal blog.
As I started posting my thoughts, I realized that I wanted to be read by as many people as possible. So, I went back online and surfed again on how to maximize the exposure of my blog. I learned various methods from newbies and pro-bloggers, such as the much contested phrase that “Content is King,” How to Increase Traffic by SEO methods, and I also learned that I could make money from my blogs.
I applied for Google AdSense for my blogs. I said blogs; because, by then, I had already several of them; three of my favorites are my educational blog, my health blog, and my news blog. Luckily, I got approved by AdSense.
Excitedly, I displayed the Google AdSense ads in my websites, only to be disappointed when I realized I was only earning pennies from my sites. My big break came when I started writing current events.
You are reading this article because you want to know how, an amateur blogger like me, earned $1,700 online in a day.
The figures above is for a month, but for a day I earned $1,700.
Well, here’s what I did. It worked for me, but I cannot guarantee that it would work for you as well, because there might have been aspects that I failed to take note of.
#1 – I surfed for trending topics in different websites.
The first thing that I did that day was to surf online about emerging trending topics. What was the topic of the day that most surfers would search for? You can do this by visiting websites and browsing their trends. You could also select the topic by determining what news people would be most interested in. The topic that I selected for that morning was about food contamination. Due to Google’s confidentiality clause, I am not allowed to mention the specific URL and website from where I have earned the $1,700. I could, however, “accurately disclose the amount of Google’s gross payments” to me pursuant to the Program.
#2 – I wrote about the topic making use of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) rules.
Search Engine Optimization does not involve using your keywords indiscriminately. You have to write an engaging article that is interesting where your keywords blend flawlessly with your message. Use also several related keywords. A 1.5 to 2% keyword density is acceptable. If you use more than that, then your article may be dumped by Google Search because it is categorized as spam. It is recommended that you use your keywords in the first and last paragraph of your article, and are distributed evenly throughout your post. Remember, your primary purpose is to inform, so if the keyword reads awkward at the middle of your sentence, then get rid of it. Google has a more intelligent algorithm nowadays, because it could determine if your post is ONLY there with the intent to earn money.
#3 – I used simple words that any reader could understand.
I wrote primarily to inform, and earning was the icing on the cake. You would not want your readers researching for the meaning of “erudite” when all you wanted to say was “learned.” Using simple and plain English would also allow readers from ESL countries to read and promote your post.
#4 – I followed the “above the fold” placement as per Google’s advice.
Google had presented vital articles into how to maximize your Google AdSense ads. A little tweaking could increase your earnings significantly. Make sure you don’t violate any of its rules and regulations, and have read AdSense’s Terms and Conditions. A large rectangular ad and 300×250 was embedded at the center before the body of my post, and link ads are found at the side bar. You could enlist the help of a friend who is a tech expert.
#5 – Organic traffic was my best source of traffic
If you want to earn good money, then organic traffic is best. Organic traffic is when surfers come to your blog because of a link they found in search engines. This indicates that they are truly interested in the topic. They may not comment in your post but your visitor counter would reflect the increased amount of your earnings. I ensured that my post was visible at Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and even at Yahoo Answers and Google+. As the popularity of your article increases through the readers who searched for it, your ranking also increases in the Search Engine Results Pages.
I was staring at my Feedjit and I was amazed that more than a thousand people could access it within a few minutes. As the droves of visitors came to the site, so did my Google AdSense earnings increased.
Unluckily, it was not duplicated again. The thought though that it can be done, gave me the inspiration to keep trying. I believe luck came also into the picture. There is no clear cut method as to why I earned $1,700 in one day.
These were the factors surrounding, what I considered as a “phenomenon,” so I wanted to share them with you. Of course, the probloggers out there who earn 6-digit figures would consider my earnings just a blip on their money radar. For me, though, it was a phenomenon.
Who knows? I might be able to duplicate it again someday.
I still have not failed until I stopped trying, right?
