The following are some tips that would be helpful in optimizing your blog for search engines.
1. Anticipate search terms
Before writing a post, you need to take time to think about what words people are likely to use when searching for that kind of information in search engines. When you have an idea of the type of words many people use when searching, you will be able to write your post appropriately.
2. Create quality content
When it comes to SEO, the quality of the content you create is very vital. When someone reads a post that is relevant and helpful, they might want to share it with others. When they share links to your post, your search engine rankings are likely to improve.
3. Use keyword-rich titles
Titles are very important for search engine rankings. Make sure your title appears in the title tag of your blog. Remember to include keywords which are relevant to your niche. However, avoid including your blog name since this might make the keywords less effective.
The keywords which are used in the header should also be used in other sections of your post such as the sub-headings, in the content and in the alt tags of images. Makes sure you use the phrase or term which you would like Google to rank you for.
4. Link internally
One of the best ways of enhancing your blog’s rankings is by getting backlinks from other sites. Linking within your blog is also very effective. When your posts are interlinked, visitors will be able to access more information about your subject. You might want to link to your major blog posts from places such as your blog’s front page or sidebar.
5. Link externally
Make an effort to get links pointing back to your blog by getting active in other leading blogs in your niche. However, getting backlinks should not be your priority. Instead, focus more on creating quality content and links will naturally follow. However, don’t hesitate to inform other blog owners about a great post you have written. They might just be willing to link up.
In addition, you need to realize what kind of posts usually succeed in getting other blogs to link to you. This will enable you to create linkable content over and over again.
6. Build your reader base
The people who read your blog are likely to share the information with others in their network by bookmarking you, linking to you, emailing friends about you, tweeting about you or recommending your blog. Therefore, having many readers will increase the chances of your blog being identified by other readers. This will eventually grow your search as well as organic traffic.

A lot of SEO consultant (especially the novice’s and amateur’s) tend to think that keyword should only be in the Meta data of your article – and forget to use them in their links, image names and meta elements, file paths and domain name if possible. When doing SEO reading simply won’t suffice – you need to practise and analyse your findings in order to become proficient in SEO as a general or Specialization niche.

Great tips! This are pretty much the must have points to keep in mind when writing a blog post, although I would have added the alt tags for images… a lot of people don’t give them much attention but surely they can increase your keyword relevance in your articles!
