Author hReview is one of the hottest new plug-ins to hit the market this month. It’s designed primarily for bloggers who regularly post product reviews, by giving them an attractive, easy-to-use review template, rating box, and various display options.
Do you like to post product reviews on your blog? Do you use WordPress 3.0 or later? Most bloggers like to write and post reviews of the products and services they use regularly, and their readers rely on them for solid information they can use. But inconsistent or rambling organization of a review post can lead to confusion for readers, who leave the blog scratching their heads – often unsure what to make of the various posts they’ve stumbled across. It’s like reading a recipe formatted like a novel, or a song written in prose. The hReview microformat, an open standard, has emerged in an effort to enable better sharing, distribution, syndication, and aggregation, of reviews.
Rich Snippets
The Author hReview plug-in was developed to take full advantage of the power of Google’s “rich snippets” – including its implementation of the hReview microformat. Searchers will be seeing stars as Author hReview adds ratings stars to make SERP results more eye-catching and draw more visitors to your site.

According to Google, rich snippets “extract and show more useful information from web pages than the preview text that you are used to seeing.” If you’re still wondering what the fuss is about and whether you should be using rich snippets and the hReview microformat on your own blog, take a look at this rich snippets infographic.
Author hReview is also designed to reflect the blogger’s own unique opinion of the product. It is not designed to collect ratings from casual site visitors, but is, instead, limited to ratings by site editors and authors. You’ll want to publish only helpful, honest, useful reviews – because now more people will be reading them and counting on you as an authority, once you’ve implemented Author hReview.
Free Version
If you’re just getting your feet wet, or want to try before you buy, there’s a free version of the Author hReview plug-in you can try, available at WordPress.org. When you’re ready to dive in head first with the full-featured premium version, you can download Author hReview Pro. Here are the features it includes:
- 6 Months Priority Support for Author hReview
- 6 Months Upgrades
- Sidebar Widgets
- Related Reviews Shortcode
- Rating Box Shortcode

For a limited (and unspecified) time, your purchase of the Author hReview Pro plug-in gets you a copy of the Customer Testimonials plug-in at no extra cost. That’s right – Hesham is giving it away for free. You can see it in action on the Author hReview site. Hesham Zebida, of course, is the founder and operator of the well-known FamousBloggers.net, one of the largest multi-author blogs on the Internet with over 500 contributors. I just bought this plug-in this week! I’ve been “playing around with it” (Ask Hesham – I’m not kidding. He and Andy Bailey are going to have to form a club one of these days and commiserate. Maybe if you ask real nicely, Brian, they’ll let you join them!)

I just “bully” my way onto the train. But Andy and you have one advantage Hesham doesn’t have…geographic distance.

I am using the free version of this plugin. It is really good. And yes, it attracts readers when they see our ratings for the product we reviewed in Google results.

One of the sweetest premium plugins I’ve had the pleasure of buying.
Tried the free one but the extra features and support within the Premium were simply too much to resist.
The author, Hesham, is a powerhouse when it comes to support too and that’s a definite bonus.

Monica, I think the video gives you a great overview – in lay terms – of what rich snippets are and why you might want to use them. If you’re interested in a more technical discussion, look up the wiki for microformats (search: hreview specification wiki)

Thanks. This looks really interesting and I think it might be a plugin we could use on our WordPress site. I will have to ask someone with a bit more technical knowledge to see if it will work for what I have in mind. Thanks for the post.

Hi Brian,
This is a good review of this great plugin by Hesham.
Rich snippets are trendy and are also of really useful to enhance the presence of the reviews in terms of SEO, hence the plugin in whatever version accomplishes that objective
Cheers,
Gera

I can attest to the value of having a review template. It keeps you focused on the pros, a couple of cons (with solutions), a personal recommendation and call to action, and gives your reader the info they need to convert.

Hi Astro, I still haven’t tried it but ti’s because Blog Engage isn’t word press so it’s not supported right now on standalone platform which is seriously sad I think it would be a perfect fit for our RSS and marketing Services.
