We probably all do it, we promote our blogs out to the world via the Internet and the masses of Social Networks such as Twitter, FaceBook and Tumblr etc, but if you are running a blog that may have local posts or even if you would like to get your local area to give you a helping hand with some new readers, commentators and fans then have you considered your local Radio stations and other options!

Getting Your Blog Mentioned On The Radio

Yes I know it sounds a little bizarre, but by using your local Radio stations you can get some handy free promotions for yourself and your blog, yes I said free, you did read that right. You don’t have to fork out for advertising on the stations, you can take advantage of competitions that the stations may be running or even the request shows that the majority of them have.

I’ve done this very thing with Blazing Minds with my local radio station, every day of the week the station has a contest for local companies, teams and individuals to enter and get a mention, simply by texting in and letting them know what you think the track is that is playing.

By texting in with the answer and including “Karen from Blazing Minds” has got me mentioned several times the same goes for requests, I now only have to request a track as Karen and they add the “from Blazing Minds” in the broadcast, as you can see this is free promo for my blog, yes I know it’s only local radio, but, the station also broadcasts a live feed via the Internet, so in turn the mention is going out worldwide.

Become A Reviewer Or Something Similar

Those that do follow me on Twitter, Facebook and my blog will have seen many times that I have started reviewing a lot of films at my local Apollo Cinemas and they have shown their appreciation by tweeting out my reviews and adopting me as their reviewer and even setting up the #ApolloRhylFilmReviewer has tag on Twitter to show the reviews have come from me.

Of cause this means I have to see a lot of films, but that’s not a problem I love films ;) But this also means that that’s another source promoting my blog, it’s now a word of mouth promotion with people talking to each other ans saying things like “I saw the review and thought I’d see the film for myself”, which I have overheard in the cinemas foyer.

I’ve even got myself a T-Shirt from the cinema for the release of Star Wars in 3D and have been asked about the cinema when I’ve been out wearing it, when I mention I don’t work there I do the reviews, they have know who I am ;)

Use Your Body As A Promotional Item!

What!? I hear you say, it’s not as bad as it sounds, it all boils down to T-Shirts, yes, seriously T-Shirts!

There are so many places that will produce T-Shirts and other merchandise for you on-line these days for a small price, yes I know it’s a little outlay, but it’s not that much to pay for a little bit of promo for yourself, you could even have several made and have a competition to giveaway the T-Shirts, this in turn will get the word out even more.

But if you are a little short of cash, then you could try a local printing company to do a deal with you, stop by and ask them if they would be willing to print up a T-Shirt or two with your logo on with your blog address and add theirs as well to the design, with something along the lines that you support or sponsor their company.

You would be surprised how many small business’ will say yes to a bit of promotion, but some, you will have to show how committed you are and how popular your blogging skills are ;)

You could also get yourself some bumper stickers, these are just as effective when you are driving around or your car is parked in a car park, why not, it’s advertising space at the end of the day ;)

Postal Services

This is so simple it’s a crime, when you post a letter or parcel to someone, put your web address on the back of the envelope, you’d be surprised how many people see the back of an envelope! I’ve tried this myself and one day someone tweeted me that they had found my blog on the back of a parcel in a sorting office in Calgary, how mad is that :lol:

The Age Old Method Of …. Word Of Mouth

It’s what we all do, we talk to each other! When you are talking to someone and the opportunity arises drop in a mention of your blog, don’t be too forward about it, you don’t want to be a human version of SPAM do you!

If someone asks what you do, tell them you have a blog and what you do with it, ideal if you do music reviews and you are in a record store or you do movie reviews and you are in a cinema or DVD store.

Just My Choice

There you have just some of the methods I use when I’m trying to get the word out for my Blog and yes they do work, for me, they may not work for everyone, but isn’t worth a try to help improve the reach of your blogging audience.
