There’s been kind of a debate about CLICK HERE not only among us, bloggers, but also throughout all of the community. It’s interesting to see how divided the opinions are and it’s quite fun to see people going crazy over it, so…
…let’s talk about it shall we?
For those of you who don’t know, CLICK HERE is just what it says. It’s the anchor text people often use to get their site visitors to click through to where they want them to go, but…
…does “Click Here” still work?
Well, before I answer that question, let me tell you about why people don’t really like to use that phrase as the anchor text on their blogs and sites.
You see, it’s common knowledge that if you put a keyword you want to rank for in as an anchor text for your links, it’ll help you with SEO. On the other hand, if you use CLICK HERE in your links, it won’t do much for your ranking so…
…what people decided to do is go completely against CLICK HERE and just stick to using keywords for anchor text.
Logical, but…
…there really isn’t anything better to get people to do anything than telling them exactly what to do.
I mean, think about this, if you want someone to go out and get you some oranges, you’re going to tell them just that, right? You’re going to say “could you please go downstairs and get me 3 oranges right around the corner?”
Of course!
If you said anything different, you’d get different results.
It’s the same online. If you want people to do something, you have to tell them exactly what it is, and how to do it, and…
…most of the time you’re going to want your readers to “CLICK HERE to get your free report,” or “CLICK HERE to find out how to lose weight quickly,” etc.
See what I am saying here?
If you just want people to do something, and improving your SEO is a secondary concern to you, then asking people to CLICK HERE is perfectly logical.
On the other hand if all you’re about is SEO, then choosing those two words as your anchor text is going to do little for your rankings (although it can be beneficial. More on that later.)
So…
As with everything else online, CLICK HERE does work if you know what you’re doing.
On a different note, did you know that including a few CLICK HERE backlinks to your SEO campaign will actually help your rankings?
The reason for that is every single site out there, if they’re building backlinks naturally is going to have some CLICK HERE back links, so the fact that you have some…
…makes your backlinking strategy look very natural to Google or any other search engine out there.
We all know what natural looking link building does, right?
So, next time you see some people fighting over whether they should use CLICK HERE or not, just smile to yourself and remember this post, OK?
There’s no right or wrong answers in Internet Marketing and blogging. If you know what you’re doing and if you’re taking action, pretty much anything will bring you a certain degree of success, so…
…just go for it!

I do agree 100% at this statement:
“There’s no right or wrong answers in Internet Marketing and blogging”
Why? because different strategy may or may not work into different niches, thus, making this kind of business a case to case scenario, i mean, no right or wrong.

Yes, I don’t want people to think I’m right about “click here” or anything, just from my experience and points of view that’s what I see to it about using “click here” and though keywords does work but sometime different situation does need to use different sort of strategy to work, so do you prefer “click here” or just keywords ?

It is really a case to case basis for me or it depends at my goal. I mean, if I am going after the TRAFFIC more than the branding or backlink, i prefer click here. But, if I am going after the backlink and branding more than the traffic, then keywords will be used.

This is true that click here word is not used anymore and it is not great for link building because keyword target is more emphasized when you are link building for a website
Yes, I do agree with you, if you are link building a website, but if you are selling for profit… “click here” is still a better choice… “it’s a call to action term”

I agree that people need to be directed to the site, but don’t you think that you might get more sales from using keywords in the long term. I think it might look a bit more professional, that’s just my opinion.
Actually it depends, as I had said there is no right or wrong, as long as the end results is what you want you can even use both.

rank for. Even if your call to action goes to a ‘here’ but you can still link to anchor text. It’s been pretty effective for me

(sorry about that) I think ‘click here’ hasn’t been relevant for a while. It’s wise to use anchor text related to a keyword you’re trying to rank for. Even if your call to action goes to a ‘here’ but you can still link to anchor text. It’s been pretty effective for me

Ya, you are right, but I will put the keyword in and includes a “click here” such as “Click Here to Get More Blogging Tips” or so… hope you know what I mean…

Well, I think it generally depends on the purpose of the links. If you want to obtain traffic from that link or want people to take some sort of action, then the link anchor should actually say exactly why you want them to click the link, just like you said, using something like “Click here to get your free product” or “click here to subscribe” etc.
But if you want SEO you have to use an anchor that will contain your keywords, because although all links count, those with you targeted keyword in them help much more then pointless Click here links. But there is always a way to combine them like “Click here to get the free report of Keyword”, maybe even bold the keyword there.

Everything you said is absolutely right, but I still prefer to combine them, unless I have got no choice but to use either one.

I always face off with this “click here” but I don’t click them unless the service offered is of from authority and tested blog. With “click here” I always look at the landing page to be safe and to some I look up with the caption “I respect your privacy” for subscription. Anyway, what’s the best convincing alternative for “click here”?

Well… combine them all together for example “Click Here to Get My Traffic Ebook” with a ” I respect your privacy” warning below…. although it may seem common, but at least by combining the “click here” and also the keyword “traffic” it’s still better then just “click here” alone…

Hmmm, it depends on where that CLICK HERE takes me. Well, most of us has been seeing links everyday and our intuition and rational thinking tells us whether we should click a link or not.
As for the CLICK HERE… I often do encounter those and that type of thing falls into two categories: a CLICK HERE that will bring you to something that will make your mind blown, and a typical boring CLICK HERE. Now, how do we distinguish the two? Context clues. As what others suggest, if a CLICK HERE has some attached captions like ‘We hate spam as you do.’, I think those are quite acceptable.
Regarding those ebook pop up downloads, I never really click those unless I got to know the writer or I’ve seen a majority of his works. Those “click here download this ebook and you’ll get triple traffics to your blogs in N days” don’t get me either. Why not publish it as a blog post instead to save my time so I need not to download it.
How about something like “If you don’t click this you’ll gonna miss something you wouldn’t want to miss.” It’s either the reader will click it because they don’t want to miss that something OR the reader will still click it to prove that they really don’t bother to miss that thing its saying. Either way, they still clicked it.
So, you mean is “click here” still works depending on which type of offer you are using and yes I do agree on what you said, I mean there are “click here” that’ just too boring and had no point, but if it was the last sentence you said, it will be something of a interest to me….

Hi Wong, I don’t have an ebook or free product to give away so I imagine that the only time I would use “click here” is if I’m sending someone to one of my Web 2.0 properties like my HubPages, my Twitter page or something like that. Does that make sense?
Ileane recently posted..Blog Engage Guest Posting Contest
Well… that does make sense because that’s the action you want your audience to do – Click the damn link and go to your site….

hey Wong, thats a great post. I totally agree with you. It all depends on what you was. you can also make a longer link text to incorporate both. So, say you want to target the keyword “fast website traffic” you could say “Click Here to Get Fast Website Traffic” and link the whole thing.
