Hey Brian, I know when you came up with the registration fee, it was a great way to reduce spam… though it made it so my readers wouldn’t have the option to vote without paying so I removed the button from my sites.
And I know you were trying to improve community engagement when you disapproved of users voting only for the people they know or only within their niche.
And this new service is an interesting idea, but considering the two changes I mentioned, it might look like it’s all been heading towards making the front page difficult to achieve unless you sign up for what’s now basically paid text links?
I love Blog Engage and the RSS subscription service I have with you, but I’m concerned that this new service might be rather non-community and puts the previous changes in a bad light.

Hi Tom, you make a great point and bring up an initial huge concern of mine. The only way I can ensure this is a success is to ensure the quality of content we will allow to be syndicated.
When I picture the end result in my head I see quality content that engages our community! Content we learn from and enjoy sharing with our blogging friends. In my mind this doesn’t only benefit our members but also improves the overall quality of our community.
Take a few of my customers for example, The Dragon Blogger TMG Media, Hot Blog Tips, Bloc Blog Tips, and so many more. Many of their great article never see the front page because they don’t get enough votes! This new service will ensure their content gets seen by members who need to see it!
I will always be loyal to the brand of the Blog Engage name. Every decision I make will be in the best interest of our members and company. I enjoy your business and perhaps someday you will also see benefit in using such a service.

Shouldn’t it be up to the “community” to decide what should make the front page? Unless you are the community this idea is only to generate revenue for you. So I cannot get my “friends” to vote for legitimate good articles even though they are paying customers, but if I pay you $200/month you will publish a maximum of 30 (31) articles for me? I am sorry but how does this help the community? I guess it isn’t much about the community really.

Hi Ray, I publish our members content with 7 votes or 15 votes Being 5 days old or being 30 days old. Heck if a member messages me and says “hey Brian, can you publish this for me is a contest I’m holding and is over soon” I say yes So if you think what I’m doing here isn’t for the community then you’re wrong. I’ve built Blog Engage from the ground up and everything I do is for the benefit of our community.
Try not to be so negative it’s going to work out well don’t worry. Try to keep a more opened mind about our websites growth. This could mean big changes for us with regards to development and functionality.

Again Brian, I saw a lot of low quality articles recently spotted on front page and it seems people are not exchanging votes that I left your community for a long time and find facebook, G+ and Twitter rather useful. I hope you should have more insights on this, otherwise people would leave sooner or later.
I am not against to your decision as BlogEngage is yours and your business. I just express my personal view after seeing your email.

Hello Tinh, just because you think in article is low quality doesn’t mean it’s not good content. You have to remember we have tons of categories you may not be interested in and because of that you consider it low quality. You have to be more opened minded to the content on our website that isn’t in your niche. Many members can say the same perhaps about your blog because they have no interest in it. This has been one of my biggest challenges with blog engage is determining what is good content and what is not. Tinh if you have issue with the content you see on blog engage I have asked many times for feedback so please send me some complaints and feedback. Please look at my Comment Luv.

The same idea from me and BlogEngage would never be user-generated content community with this package. Let me give you an example, you have about 20 articles max for front page and you have about 20+ users subscribing to this new package, all of them have 1-3 articles per day, that means all of front page articles are paid to get spotted. No one would like to stay here to vote and people who have cash in pocket will never need to go here as they are guaranteed to be on front page, Am I correct Brian?
I will now focus on facebook and G+ and Twitter. I am so sorry to be straight forward but I am sure, a lot of readers have same idea on this point too. Good luck Brian!

I agree with Tinh’s opinion but there are many ways to make the service better. My suggestion is limiting the number of sponsored links to just 1-2 on frontpage, they could be rotated for each visit. It would help your page avoid from flooding with sponsored links. One more important thing is that you need to moderate each links to guarantee the high standard quality.

Hi Tuan, the content being published to the front page is going to be better than the content on the front page right now. It’s going to be bloggers that are high quality and provide fresh content to our members that’s more reneging than some of the stuff we have now. Trust me when I say this is going to improve the quality of our website dramatically. As I said in my article I will 100% qualify all our sales and if I don’t approve it their money will be refunded without question.

Tinh, you have nothing to worry about. Please try and be more open minded and not so negative. I go to your blog, comment and engage and now you are thinking of turning your back because I’m going to improve the quality of our website content? This is good and shouldn’t be taken as a negative like you have today. You have to understand I will be making the decision on whether or not members are allowed on this service. The content will be geared for bloggers so it’s going to be stuff you want to read and want to learn about. What I see from you right now is a blogger that has come to this conversation with negative in his mind and to me this I not the way to look at life and our new project. You have my promise this will not affect the quality of our community but in fact increase the quality I ensure you.

Hi Brian,
As I said earlier, I am NOT against to your strategies and BlogEngage is a great place for bloggers to share their stuff and get more exposed and traffic to their sites. That is Win-Win for all. I know it is your business, I just wanted to make it clear so everyone is happy to jump in.
I am an open-minded one and I am also making money from internet so I understand this very well
No objection to your strategy and I will be happy to see your success too. The only thing I meant in my early comments was that those who are willing to pay $199/month for the Direct to Front Page Marketing (if approved by you as mentioned) will definitely get their posts exposed at front page and slots are limited too. My assumption was that what will happen if there are more than 30 subscribers who will get this package. That will affect regular and free members as many of their posts are at high quality will hardly spotted at front page. They will be discouraged to go on. That is true and of course, we need to wait and see as you said, no one subscribes to this new package yet.
Frankly, your strategy as a business man is not wrong and I will do the same thing in your situation. But, we need to know more details about this new package so everyone can be aware of this too. The price is not cheap to most of BE members I guess even myself, so the more information you provide, the more subscribers you will get
Again, I love BE community as at least you are among the first to set up that kind community just for bloggers

Hi Tom, I wanted to make another note on your comment about removing the Blog Engage button. Take a look at all your submitted articles. Most of your content is published to the front page because of our Blog Engage readers. The button allows our members to easily recognize you as a part of our community. When I run into a blog with the Blog Engage button it makes me engage. I tweet; comment and social share the article more then I ever would if it wasn’t there. My point is if you remove the button you may in fact see less engagement form our members.

Hi Brian,
1. I’m going to try to reiterate what I think you have just said. Members can buy this Direct to Front Page Marketing Service and secure their place on the front page without having to wait for the votes from the community.
2. This new membership with have only 1 publishable article each 24/hrs and the content must meet with your approval. (Are you the one who will judge whether the content is of a publishable quality? If so, what will you be looking for? I think there needs to be more info so writers are writing with this in mind.)
3. The rest of members can still make the front page with 7-15 votes. (This should have a more constant number, I think so that when they reach this number, they can be published without asking.)
4: I am understanding voting this way-which may not be correct: It is okay to vote on articles when you read the article and like it. It is okay to vote on articles of friends when you know they consistently write quality articles (there is no way to have 40 friends on BE, and read all the articles they write or no one would ever have time to write their own posts.) It is okay to write via message to ask your friends to read your latest post, and if they like it, to vote on it. It is not okay to send a chat message to someone to ask them to vote on your article.
(Please correct me if I am mistaken on any of this.)
5. There are only around 20-30 places on the front page for published articles? If this is correct, I do see a problem with this new account, because I want to have my stuff published if I get the right amount of votes, and I certainly can’t afford the $199 since I don’t earn much money on my blog. If this is wrong, please advise.
I’m not against this new type of membership, however, it does have some things for other members to consider. I also realize you would probably like to be full-time with your online business.
Thanks for listening. Sally

Hi Sally, yes members that are approved by me for quality content will be allow to publish one article every 24 hours to the front page without having to wait for the votes from the community. But please note these are articles you will love and would vote for anyway you just miss it sometimes because we have so much stuff coming in the pipeline.
Yes the rest of our members can still make the front page but with more like 12 votes as opposed to 7. I publish stuff from some members with low votes because they are longtime friends and help engage the community.
Right now people on Blog Engage just vote for whatever they don’t even look. So to be honest some of the content being published right now doesn’t even meet the standards I would have for the new customers for the Direct to Front Page Marketing. The content in this program will meet or surpass the content currently being submitted to the community.
It seems you’re worried about the front page being flooded when in fact we don’t’ even have one customer using this service yet. Let’s take a step back and see how it plays out for the first month or two okay?
You know I love blog engage and I would never do anything to sell us out. These customers are going to be like big named bloggers with great content let’s be positive about this!

Hi Brian,
Thank you for getting back with me so quickly about this. I’m not upset that you are changing things up a bit. That is how things work. I just wanted to be clear. I did see that you have changed some thing today that will be of benefit to everyone! Good for you and thank you.
I hope that if you ever see something of mine that doesn’t meet the standards of the community, you will please let me know. I try hard to write quality content, but sometimes it is hard to judge one’s own articles.
I realize that most of the members won’t be able to afford the Frt Pge Mkt’ng thing, so it doesn’t bother me. Those that can afford it, will only give you more revenue to work with to make BE even better. I’m glad to member of a site that has an owner with high integrity.
It’s your ‘baby’ and I’m just happy to be adopted into the family! Sincerely, Saly
