The first thing we will want to do in our SEO and Keyword challenge is research and analysis.
We want to ensure the articles that contain our specific keywords and keyword phrases have the correct and most updated information possible. We want to determine areas in which our article can be better then theirs.
We don’t just want to rank for a specific keywords we also want to ensure the individual visiting our article is getting the information they are looking for. This will ensure the longevity of your articles ranking.
The first thing we want to do as part of our research is to analyze our competitions information and content. Go to Google and start searching your desired keywords or keyword phrases.
At this point we will have a good idea of what we are up against. The important areas to take note of are the topic titles and first paragraph of the written content.
Topic Titles – We are looking to see if many people are ranking from their topic titles. Are they using keywords in their titles and if so perhaps we should be as well.
Written Content – The most important part here is within the first paragraph. Take a look at their content and within the first paragraph see if they are using the same keywords that are in their topic titles.
After reviewing the topic titles and first paragraphs of their content make notes on a note pad if they did in fact use their keyword in the title and first paragraph. If they did you might have some extra work involved with out ranking them. Don’t worry we will discuss these steps at a later date.
Content Quality – Have a read through the entire articles and determine if they are providing the visitor with the most updated correct answer possible. Make notes on where the articles need improvement because this is where you will be making the significant difference in the quality of your own written article.
- What’s missing?
- What’s out dated?
- What needs to be added?
- What can I do better?
As mentioned above these questions should be written down in front of you and as you go through the first page results of your desired keywords you will start accumulating enough information to use when we start preparing our own article.
Skim through the contact and start taking notes of all the best and most beneficial information all the articles have. In no way am I suggesting plagiarism but re writing the information in your own words is perfectly fine.
Day 1 to do list
- Research your competition.
- Analyze their topic title and content. (specifically the first paragraph)
- Take notes on where the articles can be improved.
- Make notes on important factors you might want to mention in your own article.

I don’t tend to do articles so much, I normally just stick to doing on site content and link building which works great for me all the time
I will be doing my keyword (Free SEO Blog) on the main page of my blog (see link in my name) so all I will do it change my meta date as that the first step in any seo campaign (after analytics etc) and then it will be content building (so blog posts and maybe some static text at the top of my blog) and the link building to give me some authority in my niche
I think that’s all I will be working on just to show how much content is king when you use it just on your own site and not in articles.
I will update my forum post with my google position every other day so people can see how well my SEO tactics work.

I’m fine with that SystemOAD but you must understand the majority if not all of what I will be talking about will be about articles and not your home page or landing page. Perhaps you can reconsider and try to rank for a new keyword within an article and join the rest of us?

Hmm, I thought we were ranking any URL we wanted. Are we limited just to ranking specific articles on our blog? Let me know as I think I had a different understanding. I was going to rank my homepage URL (well, not BizChickBlogs; a new blog). I can certainly optimize each individual article but it changes the strategy a little, so just let me know!
Cheers,
Tia

Well I could do Brian but I had the same thoughts as Tia, plus I would still be working on the same keywords for all my articles on my blog as its new and I have done no SEO on it as of yet. So “Free SEO Blog” is going to be the main keyword for the whole of my blog as its new and later in a couple of months once ranked for the main keyword I will be starting on different keywords for articles, but as its new theres not much point in me working on just the one article as it will not rank well atm.
All of the articles on my blog will be optimised for “free SEO blog” so I guess its still kind of what you had in mind right? but I will just be using them to rank the whole blog and not one article

Keywords in title of course helps in better ranking in search engine.

Yes Brian, starting with a research is always good but unfortunately sometimes I wrote my articles when my idea came and just typed the article and forget about this. Thanks for remind me and I’ll check again my article to make it more “SEO”
