Naturally, most of everyone on the internet has a problem with ads just like they have a problem with TV ads. I have an ad blocker installed, because of owners on the internet that abuse their websites to gain a few extra cents a day. With pop ups, pop unders, click hijackers, and other very annoying types of ads – an ad blocker is kind of natural to have if you want a “normal” browsing experience. At the same time, I feel many people are misusing their ad blocking extension.

I find it perfectly acceptable to block a large majority of ads on the internet, but there is a point where you need to look at what you are doing to the sites that you are browsing. I’m sure there are many of sites that you use that aren’t owned by corporations. For example, Chris Pirillo works really hard on LockerGnome and his other websites. These sites are great resources for tech news, but do you think they would still be online without the support of ads? They probably wouldn’t and by blocking these ads, I feel you are stealing the knowledge that him and his community are providing you with.

“But I’m not stealing!”

How exactly can you say that? He spends a great deal of time providing you with content and the only way that he can get anything in return is by showing you ads or by you sharing his content. If you’re not doing either one of those, then you aren’t supporting him and you are taking something with intentions of not giving anything in return. Stealing is pretty much the same thing, because you’re taking a product without paying for it.

Not at all am I telling you to remove your ad blocker, but you should at least consider disabling it on sites that you use . Without the support of sponsors or ads, then most of them wouldn’t be online today. I have noticed that people are blocking ads on my site…and I have to say that I feel pretty cheated. I’m not in this game to make a huge profit, but rather I still pump funds into my blog to provide you guys with content. How do you expect it to stay online if I’m not getting anything from it?

What are your opinions on ads? Do you block all of them or do you only block some of them? If you block all of them, then please comment with a legitimate reason on why it is acceptable for you to do so!
