If there is one thing that attracts readers the most consistently and serves as an easy type of link bait, it is that of the info-graphic. If you don’t believe me just check out the front pages of Digg and Reddit and see how many posts are made up of simple easy to digest graphics. For some reason or another, people tend to eat this stuff up in droves and for us bloggers, it’s one way to create compelling link bait.

One of the best blog examples to solely use this method of posting is the OkCupid blog. This blog has only been putting up about a post per month for a year now and is already one of THE top blogs on the web. So what’s their secret? Easy, because the owner also owns the OkCupid dating site, they have a huge amount of useful data at their disposal; the kind of data which they can easily turn into compelling statistical graphs.

So how do we create our own graphs to use as link bait? Well, that’s pretty easy too. You can create graphs out of almost anything, particularly if you are using Google Docs to aid you in the process.

Let me show you how I used a Google Docs Form to create a simple poll, drive traffic to that poll and then create a graph which served as the staple to one of my most successful posts to date.

The first thing I did was setup a simple fun hypothetical poll that would really engage people and get them thinking, like this:
signs of attraction survey

The second thing I did was spend $5 at StumbleUpon to deliver approximately 100 visitors to the survey. This along with my regular readers amounted to about 200 or so survey results, giving me enough solid data to create my link bait graph.

After about five days of collecting the data, I posted my link bait graph, along with my full analysis. The graph in the post ended up looking like this:
Signs of Attraction Graph

Finally, I sent out a few emails to some of my fellow bloggers in the same niche (dating) notifying them of my super cool “research study.” Also, I submitted the article to a handful of niche social media dating sites such as the Seduction Sub-Reddit.

So, what were the results? Within several days, that one post had gotten well over 6,000 unique hits and quickly became one of my best performing posts in years, all to the power of a simple little graph.

The next time you get stuck in a rut, trying to think of a good post idea, don’t strain your brain too hard, as it could be as simple as making a graph.

As we start a new week I would like to continue moving forward towards implementing the new rules and suggestions for our community members.

I know it’s going to take sometime in order to accomplish all of what I ask but I must admit we have had such a strong and positive start it looks good from here on out.

I know it’s hard to keep up with everything that is going on with blog engage because you all have your own blogs but it’s really important we try and stay connected to fully understand the purpose behind our internal changes.

Today’s article is going to be a very basic reminder or even update to some of the changes that are happening within the community. These changes help and benefit all our members and will only make our community stronger and smarter than the rest.

I know we have already had questions on how the voting works and why stories aren’t going to the front page after 10 votes. Hopefully this article will answer all your questions. I no longer guarantee an article will be published based on votes and it will never be that way again.

What’s taken into consideration when publishing articles?

  • Total amount of votes
  • Community participation (votes, comments)
  • Article submissions V.S total votes for others
  • Website design
  • Quality of the content
  • Updated profile picture and data

Main reasons your article didn’t get published

  • No Blog Engage Image
  • Duplicate content
  • Poor Design
  • Pop up ads
  • More ads then content
  • Little or no content within the article
  • Website name in story title
  • No updated profile or profile picture

How to improve on this?

  • Add the blog engage image
  • Consider changing your current template
  • Remove some  ads
  • Write more characters within your article
  • Remove website name in story title

To ensure the quality of content I make all bloggers pass these minimum expectations. If you do not pass your content will remain on the upcoming page until promoted by our members over time and or manually removed from our website.

Your account will not be deleted.

I get a lot of questions about inactivity and inconsistent blogging habits. It seems many of our members are afraid their account will be removed if they are not active. This is incorrect and your account will NOT be removed for inactivity.

If you are active you must vote for other bloggers. If you haven’t logged in for a month or more you don’t have to worry about being deleted. I’m also asking active members that are submitting their articles to vote for other bloggers and to be active.

Rule #1

At minimum you must vote for the three times the amount of articles you submit. If you do not follow this rule from here on out as mentioned your account will be deleted and banned. So if you submit 1 article you must vote for three others.

Rule #2

I’m asking our members to start removing their blog or website names from the story titles when submitting to the website. I know this will take some time getting used to so please try and remember.

Rule #3

You must add the blog engage image to participate within our community. We area Do Follow blog community and unlike our competitors we pass the page rank juice right back to your blog. So support our cause and add the profile image.

Please ask any questions you have here and I will update this article with the answers. Let’s work together and make blog engage the best online social media marketing community on the web. I don’t see why we cannot accomplish this.

It’s us who make this community work, it’s us that vote for each other. Let’s make blog engage better for each other.

I don’t know if you seen but Google is offering webmasters a category filtering option when displaying adds on our blogs or websites.

Category filtering allows you to block ads from certain categories from appearing on your site. Their system classifies ads automatically and they don’t rely on advertiser-provided categorization.

Right now, they’re only able to support category filtering for English, French, German, and Spanish. Ads in these categories will be blocked if they’re in any of the supported languages, regardless of how they’ve been targeted to your pages.

You can block ads from up to eight of the following categories:

  • Cosmetic procedures and surgery: Includes lifts, suctions, lasers, hair removal and restoration, tattoos, and body modification.
  • Dating: Includes dating services and online dating communities.
  • Drugs and supplements: Includes pharmaceuticals, vitamins, supplements, and related retailers; does not include resources providing information about drugs.
  • Get rich quick: Schemes promising fast earning.
  • Politics: Includes politics or controversial social issues; does not include ads for news organizations that are not generally associated with a partisan viewpoint on issues.
  • Religion: Includes religious ads and ads advocating for or against religious views; does not include astrology or non-denominational spirituality.
  • Ringtones and downloadables: Mobile add-ons including ringtones, and other downloadable goodies such as screensavers and wallpapers for desktop PCs and profile layouts and graphics for social networks.
  • Sexual and reproductive health: Includes sexual function and fertility ads; does not include normal pregnancy resources.
  • Sexually suggestive: Provocative pictures and text.
  • Video games (casual and online): Includes video games, online games and downloadable games; does not include video game consoles.
  • Weight loss: Includes weight loss, dieting, and related products and programs; doesn’t include healthy eating or general fitness ads.

What’s your thoughts!

I’m actually happy about this and will be filtering many of the ads they offer!

If your submissions at BlogEngage still get 6-7 votes max.. or if you want to hit the front page of BlogEngage every time you submit a new blog post, just follow the tips below and take the full advantage and potential of your submitted articles on BlogEngage.

I’m writing this not because I’m bored and not because I feel like there are no competitors nor too few of them…

No.

I’m writing this, say, guide, because of the inner sincere desire to meet new active bloggers, to get know them.. or maybe you!

Before I’ll reveal the tips, let me remind you the most important benefits of getting to the front page of BlogEngage.

Benefits of the Front Page

  • Quality or Not – After you hit the front page of BlogEngage you’ll be able to understand, whether your article is quality or not. This is simple – if your submission gets ~20 votes or even more, then you better start some additional promotion (beyond BlogEngage) in order to reach the full potential of your work.If you have barely got 12-14 votes, then there are 2 possible explanations of it:1. It’s sad, but your article is not quality or it’s too different from what BlogEngage users are used to read. Try to figure out what articles get lots of votes, use what you’ve noticed.2. You’re barely visible for others – follow the tips in this article to improve your visibility within the BlogEngage community.
  • More Comments – It’s natural and simple. If you are on the front page, people notice you and go to your blog posts. If it’s interesting or you have some known features to encourage comments(ComLuv plugin, DoFollow comments, a contest for commenters etc), you get comments.
  • More Retweets of Your Own Blog Posts – BlogEngage users are extremely active bloggers and lots of them appreciate quality articles and they, actually, retweet them.
  • More Traffic – Of course, the front page of BlogEngage also equals more traffic. Not too much for one successful submission, but if all of your submitted articles get to the front page during a month, you are able to receive more than 1,000 visits. Although it depends on the total number of your submissions. You’ll get ~1,000 visitors for approximately 8-10 successful articles, which is extremely cool for a beginning blog. Don’t forget, that all these 1,000 visitors are mostly bloggers, which means, that you’re dealing with very precious traffic. But remember, that BlogEngage has very fast growth. Who knows – maybe in half a year your single submission will be able to get 1,000 visits.
  • Better Search Engine Rankings – No doubt, that BlogEngage improves your search engine rankings. At least, because it’s DoFollow and it has already PageRank 5.
  • Faster Indexing by Google – That’s a fact. Although, I believe, that you don’t need to hit the front page for faster indexing. The submission itself would be enough.
  • New Subscribers – Getting new subscribers is a “science”, where BlogEngage is a tool for it. Use it for your sake :)
  • New Online Friends – Say “Hello” sometimes, thank for votes or for single comments. Reply and retweet. Try to help and ask for help. You’ll get friends this way.

Now the tips.

7 Tips to Hit the Front Page

  1. 1. Vote actively and wisely – Voting for each and every submission is crucial, but time consuming. There’s another way.Make a list of those BlogEngage members, that voted for your latest submitted articles. Vote back for all of their articles. But there’s a “but”.How would you get your first votes for your submissions? No worries, some of your first votes you’ll get just like that.. from truly active members. But, you know what.. it won’t work just like that. I mean, that you won’t be able to get to the front page and though even if you did.. believe me, this time you were lucky. And in this case there’s no 100% guarantee, that you’ll do that again. I’m revealing the following tips to make it 100%, not 95% or less, but 100%.

What you want to do, when you’ve just signed up, is to vote, vote and vote. Vote for 1000 other submissions during your first day. This will not take you more, than one hour, though you’ll feel like you are a zombie after that. Repeat that on the next day, submit your article and track all the voters you get. Make a list of links to their submissions’ pages. Now you can relax, because from this very moment all you’ll need to do is to vote for those, who voted for you.. plus, try to vote for new members and the articles, that get to the front page. This is it. Very simple and fair.

  2. 2. Leave Grammatically Correct Comments – This is the number 1 way of being visible… after, of course, voting. It allows you to reveal your personality as much as it shows, that you are active and you deserve to get votes. Even Brian (BlogEngage owner) always leaves comments, which is, actually, unusual for me. I haven’t used to see such site/forum administrators ,who are so active within their own community (I’m speaking about popular communities). Why “grammatically correct” comments? You’ve got to be careful with your first comments. Your future authority depends on any of your first “social steps”.One of the most important reasons of leaving comments is also the fact, that latest comments are displayed on the sidebar, which increases your visibility.
  3. 3. Stick to Active BlogEngage UsersActive users always vote first for those, who they know. And I bet, that most of them also have their own “must-vote-for-them” lists.Don’t rush with this tip. It takes time to become recognizable. It takes time to become a friend. Being natural and polite is the greatest key to success in this case.
  4. 4. Use Catchy Titles And Images for Your Submissions – It does work – all the time. The good news for you is also that descriptions don’t really matter for getting votes. Though they do matter for SEO of your submissions. Why do you need to optimize your submissions?Don’t you want some additional SE traffic? Those visitors, that come via search engines will have no choice, but to click your link to read full article.

Though.. I must admit, that right now the numbers of such traffic are very poor.

One more reason is that you don’t want to compete with your own submissions, which is rather possible, if your submitted articles have the same title and description.

  5. 5. Submit Your Submissions to BlogEngage GroupsJoining groups definitely increases your chances to get more votes.Join more, than 1 group. Get the most out of it.
  6. 6. Not on the First Page After 1 Day? – Don’t get upset. Just ask some of your friends from BlogEngage to vote for your submission. This is why you should also consider adding your BlogEngage pals to Twitter, which makes it very easy to contact them and ask for help.Don’t be shy asking for help. Everyone needs it from time to time. Be the first one to ask now, and believe it or not – next time you’ll be the first one on the list of that person, who to ask for help.
  7. 7. Install BlogEngage Button – I’m still testing, whether it helps or not, but it definitely makes it easier to vote for your submissions. Not sure what’s the actual percentage of efficiency of having BlogEngage button on your blog, but you can share your thoughts and observations on it in comments.Anyways, install BlogEngage button and test it.

2 Bonus Tips: How to Stay Longer on the Front Page of BlogEngage?

  1. Before Submitting – Simply vote for all the recent submissions, that have 7-9 votes. They now will get to the front page faster, than you.
  2. After Submitting – After you hit the front page, vote only for submissions, that have 1-5 votes. This will increase your chances to get more, than 10 votes and to be a little bit more visible.

There’s Even More, Than the Front Page

All the published submissions are divided into:

  • Recently Popular;
  • Best of the Week;
  • Best of the Month;
  • Best of the Year;
  • Best of All

Following the mentioned tips above will surely help you to have at least one (or even more) great submission, that will become the best of the year.

Moreover, I’m sure, that in the nearest future the necessary number of votes to get to the front page will be increased by Brian. Now it’s only 10. The more number of members, the bigger the necessary number of votes will be.

Not having some strong strategy will make you weaker, than others.

Share your additional tips in comments! Let’s help our new members to rise and shine within the BlogEngage community.

Writing articles for some bloggers is very easy and it can take few minutes to finish. One article, for others is not that easy to create in a day. Having writing skills is a gift but we can learn how to write and the best is keep practicing to improve our writing skill.

I’ve seen lots of wonderful blogs, read the article and left comment. I’m sure you’ll like a good writing article and you’ll keep coming back to read the next article.  I’ve found few wonderful blogs with great articles that written well, from my notes the article that make me stay have few things as follow.

Interesting Title. This is the first thing I saw in one article. The title describe the content and asking me to continue to read all the article. This is really important thing on an article.

Picture. Picture related to the article help me to understand the content and some time picture give me a smile so I enjoying the article so much.

Simple Words  and Easy To Understand. I always finished all the article with simple words because my English is not good enough. I love to read blogs with simple words.

Link. Provide links (anchor text) that lead me to the other useful article as additional information for the article. The anchor text lead me to another page or article or sources.

Useful Article. The article is really help me, it can be step by step tutorial, news or anything that I really want to read.

Encourage To Leave Comment. The blog author know how to make me to leave comment, even he/she is an expert but he/she always want feedback from the readers.  So using comment management on your blog is crucial, some people won’t leave comment because it so hard to leave comment on your blog.

Provide Statistic. People always love to read article with data or statistic. This will give the article an add value that you are not talking nonsense ;) If the author talking about his/her Alexa Rank than he/she put a statistic from Alexa on the article.

Like Talking. The author just like talking to me with the article, I really enjoy article like this, the author knew that his/her visitors are human :D

Personality. The author put his/her personality on the article. I know the author a nice person, warm and kindly want to make friend with me from the article.

OK guys hope you can add few things that will help us to become better writer for our blog.  Share with us here if you have different opinion about the points from the article.

For your information, all thing above 100% base on  my personal opinion and  I’m not doing any research at all, just try to share what I found from my blogwalking and commenting activities.
