I want to talk to you about ways to successfully promote your business using social networking tools. There are so many tools available for you to take advantage of. Along with these tools, you have to provide your share of the contribution. One of these contributions is being business-savvy.
Doesn’t it drive you mad when, whenever you log onto Facebook or Twitter, there can never seem to be any common ground? On your Twitter account, there may be people following you, who contributes to your interests, goals and inspirations, then there are people who don’t.
They are not even in the same playing field. Now, your interests, inspirations and goals in life and your career may be entrepreneurship. You may be an inspiring entrepreneur. So, given your interests and goals in life, wouldn’t you want to only add the people who can contribute to that in your circle, whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or any other website or blog? I would.

You have people who want to elaborate on love, lust and relationships, then the people who randomly and frequently throw out life and motivational quotes, then the people who focus discreetly on business and professionalism. You can never find any common ground. Between the different classes of people. Now, motivational quotes are not bad. In fact, they are quite uplifting and can help you stay focused on your overall purpose and goal.
Balance is another contribution you would make. People like balance. People respect balance. We all know that, in the blogging community, we can be a little more lenient, open and relaxed. We can further engage with our visitors, bloggers and subscribers. So, when you think about it, you have two “personalities” to your business.
You have your business personality, which is your professional website. You are business 24/7. Then you have your recreational personality, which is your blog. You can talk business on your blog, or you can be a little more business-personal and engage and interact with your readers. One thing you don’t want to be is too business-oriented when it comes to bogging. I know what you’re thinking. “How in the world can you be too business-oriented? Isn’t business-oriented a good quality to have?” Let me elaborate on this for you.

Whenever you log onto Facebook or Twitter, or any blog for that matter, do you ever get the feeling that “This is overwhelming”? By that, I mean, there are some business people who are so business-oriented that they forget to stop and “smell the flowers”. Readers can become overwhelmed with it all. You have tons of advertisements on your blog. Pretty soon, readers are going to think of it as spam. There needs to be balance. Remember, you already have your professional business website – your business personality – where you can talk and be 100% business to represent your mission.
When it comes to social networking and the blogging community, you want to maintain balance. Now, this doesn’t mean swaying completely off topic and dwelling into your personal life. In fact, you, as a business person, do not want to do that. I, as a reader and subscriber to your blog, wouldn’t mind you dropping in every now-and-then, wishing your blogging community a great day, or even talking about events going on in the area. On the flip side, your blogging community doesn’t need to know every personal detail about your intimate relationships or marriages.
A good thing about blogging sites is that they are free. Their tools and services are free for you to use, so, unless you are opening an official business account, you are able to use the many available tools provided to you. You can also start as many blogs as you need under your accounts. Take Facebook, for example. Once you open a Facebook account, you have the option to create “Pages” under that account. “Pages” are pretty much like groups.
Say you wanted a business blogging account and a personal blogging account. With Facebook you can create different pages under one account. You can have a page dedicated to business, and a page directed for personal use, and you would add people and businesses to these pages appropriately.
This is a great way to keep a handle on your business and personal blogs and online lives. The option to have as many blogs as you’d like is a great feature and tool to take advantage of. It allows you the room to be who you are and to represent your purpose and your mission.

I completely agree balance is needed, this is why I mix my poetry, tech, and even some personal life announcements on my social media. I keep it about me, I see some who are all business, not enough personal and others WAAAY TOO personal (don’t share that crap online people) and not enough professionalism.

Hey Brian,
Actually I’ve seen this effect of too much stuff on regular blogs as well. I think’s it’s better to simplify and focus and of course keep a well balanced site and social media presence in order to be effective. This is good life advice as well. Too much in any extreme is unhealthy. It’s much better to lead a well balanced life overall.

You are completely right! Sometimes it can irritate me when there are too many advertisements and almost the same posts on blogs or on some social networks. Definitely they don’t think about balance… and that’s a pity. Thanks a lot for posting

Hey Brian,
I really accept it that the balance is compulsory but in the sense of advertisement its not better to think on balance.

I agree that balance is important. And I know I tend to focus on one thing, so when I get into business mode, it’s almost all business… but I manage to create that balance by adding humor and a touch of personality into everything I write, even if I’m being, well, all business.
But we all have our techniques and ways of keeping balance. Well, all of us who find success.
