It’s all very well producing that awesome blog post with that mass of information that is extremely useful to your blog readers, but sometimes, well most of the time, it’s a good idea to add pictures to your blog posts as well.
Now I don’t just mean pictures describing how you are actually producing a desired effect or instructions on how to do something, but as a means of breaking up a post with some that stops your reader from going “goggle eyed” while reading all of your blog post
Also on the plus side, this makes you blog post look a lot more aesthetically pleasing to the reader of you masterpiece, sometimes having a picture also brings in the discussion on your post, with some commentators commenting about a funny picture or even staying a tad longer to admire the chosen picture.
You can use the simple methods of your blogging platform to add pictures or you can opt to use one of the many plugins that can be used to get a picture for your blog posts, plugins such as “Insights” and one of my favourites “Zemanta”.
Both these plugins bring you the advantages of adding pictures to your posts, but, also the benefit of adding and searching for information and links that you can bring to your blog post.
So remember the next time you create a new blog post, try and find a picture to add to your latest post and maybe bring a smile to your readers faces

Excellent point, Karen. As writers, I think we sometimes over-focus on one aspect or another, to the detriment of the overall quality of our work.
I write a lot of SEO articles, for instance, and I’m always very conscious of placing my keywords and maintaining easy readability. I always break my paragraphs up into manageable chunks, and pay attention to accessibility issues (it still hurts to not justify, in deference to those that may be dyslexic).
Unfortunately, I very often forget to select an image or two, which is very important. I’ve actually resorted to referring to a checklist, to minimize my “Doh!” moments.
I blame it on age… it’s a convenient excuse.

Thanks you, I have to admit that I am guilty of forgetting to add a picture myself, that’s what inspired me to post about it

Again, short and precise post Karen. Images really gives your post more life and of course, relax your readers eyes from time to time. And sometimes, its the images that attracts the readers more

Hey Karen, I always try to grab a nice pic from Zemanta, it’s so easy to do! The only thing I don’t like about Zemanta is that they limit where you can place the image in the post, so I end up with all of them on the right hand side, but I’m not sure why they have that restriction.
I never seem to find anything suitable on Insights, but I keep trying! Thanks for the awesome tips!
Best wishes in the contest.

I have to agree with your there Ileane, the position on the image from Zemanta is very limited, it’s a shame they don’t have separate options for different posts! Some times I use insights to search my blog for past posts, it’s quite useful for that, but for pictures it is fairly bad

I forget to add pics to my posts a lot of the times, but they are super important. Not just for the post itself, but when people are sharing it, having that photo will make the share (especially on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google Buzz) more appealing and attract more clicks.

Very true indeed, I have noticed that my posts that have pictures are clicked more from the various social networks than those without pictures, I think it’s a case of “oo that picture looks interesting, I need to know more”
