Starting a business can be both exciting and challenging at the same time; the idea of running your own business and working for yourself can be very rewarding. Although there are an increasing amount of young entrepreneurs joining the global market, not everyone is successful and you need to assess your goals and be prepared for this opportunity.
With the internet being one of the most valuable tools today, many people choose to start an online business; not only does this provide more opportunities, but there are multiple benefits that makes this a very viable option. Marketing opportunities, a global audience, and a lower initial investment are just some of the reasons why an online business is the new way to go. However, it’s not always an easy ride and there will always be competition. Here are a few aspects that might help to prepare you for your new venture into the online business world.
Use Your Resources
Entrepreneurs might not always have the required funding to get their new business going and this might be a problem. However, there are many available resources that can help you get started, and one of the most popular choices is to start working from home. You will save a lot of money and grow your business until you are ready to move to your own business premises. You can take out a small loan to get started, find someone (even a family member) to make a small investment in your business, or even sell your unwanted items online to get funds together.
Word of Mouth
This is undoubtedly one of the best and most rewarding types of marketing you can ever hope to get. A referral from a friend or colleague is exactly what you need to get your business going and if you provide a product or service that are truly unique or valuable, you can be rest assured that your referrals will automatically grow. Market yourself when you are talking to people and always seize any network opportunities you can get. This is a great way to get your marketing campaign off the ground.
Develop Your Product Idea
If you are developing a product, you might need financial backing to get it up and running. In order to do this you need to have a fully developed idea before you present this to possible investors. You need to do as much research as possible, and be completely prepared. If you are going to have a physical product to market, always try to have an actual product sample to present, rather than just an idea.
Build and Maintain Your Network
You know the saying “live locally but work globally”, well that’s very true and definitely helps to define the online marketer’s motto. You need to actively build your business network and contacts by getting introduced to people, attend events, obtain referrals, and follow influential people in your particular business industry. The more you grow your business the more likely you are to build a solid customer base; which is exactly what you need as a young entrepreneur.
Monitor Your Progress
Always monitor your progress and keep track of your daily tasks and activities. You can develop your own personal system to handle you schedule, appointments, tasks and contacts, or you can make use of a variety of online tools to help you accomplish this. If you have specific tasks or projects, line them up and set deadlines for yourself, and make sure you meet them.
With these tips in mind it will be easy to get your idea off the ground and start your own online business that will soon start to show promise; before you know it you will be well on your way to success.

Hey,
These are solid tips. I vividly remember when I started reselling for hostgator. That was my very first online business and it took me less than $100 to start. Like you advised, I start with no office, no computer, etc. I was using cyber-café for Internet access. I gradually grew and was able to get a business office and now it’s growing with over 500 accounts I’m hosting.
Thanks for the wonderful tips

One of the biggest challenges of owning an online business is keeping it going when times get tough. It’s not something that everyone can do and be successful at. Thus, you have to prepare yourself for whatever shortcoming it may encounter.

I think your last point about remaining productive is key. So often when you have a home office you can get distracted and do things around the house rather than work on the business. Having boundaries, priorities, and action items keeps you focused. Suzanne

Well said Suzanne. A lot of people choose to work from separate offices so that nothing can distract them at home. I guess it’s a matter of choice, but working from home has far more benefits in my opinion

I think successful online business are these who are made by hobbies. Than you work what you love. Also we must have plan to action. Every good business have plan – marketing, sales, etc. That easily see what is working and what is not.

Great tips Andrew. You gave me an idea or two. Nowadays, starting an online business is pretty easy, just create a facebook page for your service/product can start you out pretty quick and easy, but, the question is, how you will maintain it. I think, its more important to tackle how to maintain an online business after you successfully started it .. what do you think?
