Official 2011 Guest Blogging Contest Post #13
Contest Article
2011 Best Guest Blogger Contest Article – Not Completed Yet
I had planned to submit something completely different to this guest blogging contest here on BlogEngage, but I let it sit for about two weeks, which was enough time to really contemplate whether or not that material would be of any real substance.
I decided that it was not.
Instead, I’m going to give you some simple principles about blog success that are based on quotes by the Dalai Lama. As much as I think everyone could use a little bit of reality in their blogging efforts, I also think that we listen to each other too much, and eventually, everyone starts to say the same thing. But if you’ll notice, only a few people skyrocket to success following the advice that the crowd is following.
The lesson: Use examples from life to figure out how to be successful at blogging… or anything, for that matter.
5 Things the Dalai Lama Would Say About Blogging
#1 First and foremost, focus your blogging on what makes you happy. If it’s income, fine. If it’s friendship, fine. If it’s liberty, fine. Just figure that part out.
“…it is clear that we humans who live on this earth face the task of making a happy life for ourselves. Therefore, it is important to discover what will bring about the greatest degree of happiness.” Source
#2 That putting other bloggers on pedestals and putting ourselves down is unrealistic and eventually harmful. Instead, like I always say, take a look at their archives. Realize that everyone has an uphill climb.
“If, on the other hand, we remember that it is not just ourselves but every one who has to undergo suffering, this more realistic perspective will increase our determination and capacity to overcome troubles.” Source
#3 It doesn’t matter WHAT your blog is about. You will be successful if you can learn to connect with someone on a personal level.
“Even when we engage in ordinary conversation in everyday life, if someone speaks with human feeling we enjoy listening, and respond accordingly; the whole conversation becomes interesting, however unimportant the topic may be.” Source
#4 To stay on top of your game, learn. You are never too far in your blogging career to learn something new.
“One of the main ways of being diligent is to pay particular attention to the pursuit of knowledge.” Source
#5 Take responsibility for the success of your blog, and your life or business.
“In our present circumstances, none of us can afford to assume that somebody else will solve our problems; each of us must take his or her own share of universal responsibility. In this way, as the number of concerned, responsible individuals grows, tens, hundreds, thousands or even hundreds of thousands of such people will greatly improve the general atmosphere.” Source
Putting the Principles into Action
It’s important to note that even today, you can begin to put the principles into action and see success in your blogging.
- If you’ve been writing about things that make you crazy, just for traffic or for social proof, stop. It’s not going to turn out well for you. Stay true to what makes you happy and what you can write about on a personal, friendly level.
- Don’t blame Google for your traffic drop! We all collectively contribute to a massive amount of information. Make sure your content is top notch. Encourage others by keeping yours of such high quality that they will have no option but to compete at your level.
- Don’t just learn from others, learn about others. Don’t take their claimed success at face value; instead, analyze them. See what has really led to success. It’s sometimes different than what it appears to be.
- Set out to help others. Even if you are blogging for personal reasons, try to pick out the lessons and put them together. You will get some enjoyment out of that, trust me!
Good luck with your blogging efforts. All the instruction in the world cannot make up for peace of mind. If you’re unsettled, it’s going to eat at you and also make the successful moments less enjoyable. So rather than be anxious, develop some principles of your own that will serve as the foundation for what you’re doing. Then, stick to them and see your success through.

Hi Brankica!!
It was hard to come up with something; I truly did sit on the topic for a couple of weeks. I’m not a typical contest blogger – since I don’t do many, I had to sit and really contemplate what would make a good entry AND be lasting and helpful.
Thanks for your comment and retweet!
Cheers,
Tia

Man, If we all had the knowledge of Dalai Lama I think the world would be much better, but unfortunately we don’t and we have to make do without, but following his teachings is not all that hard and like you demonstrated we can apply them in almost everything.
It’s great to see that someone still thinks of his ideals and ideas. Now, all we have to do is follow at least some of the advices you derived from Dalai’s Lama teachings.

Hi Alex!
Gratitude! I think these ideals are excellent and that we should strive to be honorable and excellent. His ideals were easy to relate to blogging and many entrepreneurial endeavors.
Thanks again for commenting; I really appreciate it!

I think the first point is the most important one, figure out what makes you and be comfortable with applying it on your blog. Most people who want to make money from there blogs are not comfortable with that idea, especially when they are new to blogging.

I am a fan of Dalai Lama and never thought that its advice will be applicable on blogging before. You made me aware that blogging is a life itself so any life advice will be applicable on it.
