Blog commenting has recently gained a lot of momentum. There is still a substantial percent of newbie blogs that aren’t receiving any comments, but almost everyone in the blogosphere is crazy about commenting.

Don’t take it the wrong way; I mean the craze is for good, almost. I say “almost” because there are still a few bad practices with blog commenting that are not serving the purpose. Let’s leave that aside, since it is not the scope of what we are talking in this post.

This post basically answers your question: “Why should I comment on other blogs?” and I am pretty sure that I will convince you if you are thinking hard and long about starting to comment on other blogs. So I basically give you reasons that tell you why you should comment. Let’s dive in.

PS: Throughout this post I imply commenting to be a commenting practice where you add valuable and thoughtful comments and NOT comment spam (both automated, that is using a blog commenting software or done by humans).

Networking

This is the NO. 1 reason I would start commenting. There is nothing beautiful than finding new people in the niche and getting connected to them. In the blogosphere, everything is about sharing and making friends. So commenting just works for this purpose.

Targeting high traffic blog sites for blog commenting will surely do great. There You have a lot of people to network with.

Reading

Blog commenting takes blog reading. I mean, you cannot leave valuable and thoughtful comments on other blogs without reading them first. And, you cannot scan too!

Blog commenting therefore encourages your habit of blog reading. That is so good. Reading other blogs keeps your updated with hot topics in your niche, hot tips and other things. Plus, reading other blogs inspire you to write great posts; they are excellent sources of blog post ideas.

Writing

Do you know that your writing improves a lot depending upon your reading? That is true. The more you read the better your write. You learn new vocabulary, various styles and writing patterns when you read variety of blogs.

Establish Authority

Do you think that you can establish authority only in and through your blog? Not at all. Of course, your own blog shows your expertise. But that is not the only place to prove yourself.

Blog commenting is an excellent way to establish your expertise. All you need to do is add value and help people out with what you have got. When you comment on a blog, do not forget to add your two cents, if you have any.

Browse through the comments and see if anyone has raised a question that is not answered by the author or anyone and you can try to help. I have gained a handful of loyal readers and subscribers through this technique.

This is no blackhat technique or a trick; but if you genuinely help others you will get noticed. So this is one strong reason that you should start commenting.

Backlinks:

Finally, I cannot go without saying this. I meant this when I started this post when I said blog commenting is getting crazy – that is for this fact! Yes blog commenting helps you build backlinks.

Remember, you are allowed to enter a url in the comment form and most blogs now have commentluv plugin installed. So you can enter a url in the comment form and give a link to one of your recent posts for a comment you leave. And, most blogs with commentluv plugin are do-follow blogs; so you build backlinks.

No-follow or do-follow – more than that, you build a lot of backlinks to your homepage and various other pages of your choice from your site through blog commenting.

Takeaway: The Good Practice-

So you know the benefits of blog commenting. You want to start that right now (I insist that very much). But have some good practice while you head over to it.

1. Do not leave spam comments.

2. Do not leave comments in a hurry that do not add any value to the post.

3. Do not be offensive. If you have to disagree with the author, do it politely.

4. Look at commenting from the view point of building relationships rather than building links.

It is basically common sense!

So what are you waiting for? Have I convinced you enough to start commenting on blogs? Show me the start of your blog commenting campaign by leaving a comment here!

It’s frustrating when trying to leave a comment, and any of these things happen:

    (1) The REGISTRATION process some bloggers employ is a huge pain in the ***!
    (2) The comment system (platform) doesn’t open, and eventually freezes the screen
    (3) You write on what seems to be the comment box but it turns out it’s actually a FACEBOOK box and when you try to submit your comment it vanishes.
    (4) The blogger has so many widgets and other gizmos, you can’t leave a comment because the page stopped loading thanks to gizmoXYZ
    (5) Comments are closed. Why bother soliciting and publishing them if you are going to set an arbitrary cut-off date and shut-out people who may something valuable to contribute, or even an update?

But HERE’S THE BIGGER NEWS::: COMMENTS ARE GOING BYE-BYE ON THE “NEW BLOGGER ALTERNATE VIEW SYSTEM” – check this out!

I have started to really get into commenting, and find that I have met many great bloggers by simply leaving comments on their blog. Many times they may respond with a comment on my blog, a retweet, or show some other appreciation.

Networking is huge when it comes to commenting, and it really doesn’t take that much time to leave a well thought-out comment on someone’s blog.

As for the new view system of Blogger, as mentioned by Dave, it certainly is interesting. I don’t have an opinion either way as I haven’t really taken a deeper look at it. The infinite scroll feature is neat as it allows a visitor to see more posts without having to click links.

Well, I always commented when I wanted to learn something about the post or wanted to give my own input, and of course I can’t deny that the links come as a nice perk, but I usually started reading blog in order to deepen my understanding of internet marketing and blogging in general, but I ended up becoming loyal readers of this blogs and the connections help me still this day.

Usually when writing a comment I would say to be sure that you have something to say and don’t write it just to get something in return, don’t leave a comment if you just want to say “Great post”. Try to add to the post or at least leave a pertinent comment which you would love on your blog too. Because your online reputation can be damaged or strengthen by your comments.

I use Blogspot also as my platform. And I must say that their commenting system is rather generic. It has a couple extra steps to go through to get your comment up. Such as you have to choose how you want to comment, Google, openGL, among other accounts you can use. I have a footer already setup for each article post that places at the bottom of my posts a Note telling everybody that my blog is a do follow blog and that they can have a backlink to their blog if they just leave a relavant comment. This has worked for me so far in getting comments started going. Because its Blogger, this encourages them to take those couple extra mild hassle steps to commenting. Good stuff.

I also use Blogger as my blogging platform, and I must say, ever since they enabled CommentLuv for it, it’s made leaving comments so much easier for my readers. No more hassles or captchas (which most people hate), and no more hoops to jump through.

The thing about commenting is the sheer amount I learn from all the places I leave comments, and the valuable and fantastic friendships Ive made through it. Getting backlinks is something that comes with the territory, but things like CommentLuv are a courtesy by the blog owner. Comment spamming hurts the entire community, not just the reputation of the spammer.

Blog commenting is a fun and exciting thing to do if you have spare time to do it. I mean spare time because for you to be able to write good comment, you must read and analyze the article it self which will take you a good amount of time as well, depending at the topic covered of course.
