When a person first discovers blogging, he/she normally has questions about starting their own blog. After becoming a blogger you might also have questions during your blogging journey. Blogging can be quite challenging at times and not every person who steps into the blogosphere will become a successful blogger. This is because they don’t ask themselves questions pertaining to blogging.

I am not asking you to hold a conversation because that would be kinda off… What I am saying is that you should think about certain things that will make blogging work for you.

This post I will discuss 5 important questions you should be asking yourself as a blogger and I would like your feedback after reading this article.

Whether you are new to blogging, already a blogger or an expert blogger, this question should be in the fore-front of your mind everytime you think about blogging. If you don’t have a purpose for blogging and you are publishing blog posts then you have plan set out in front of you. You would be like a person who stays up all night without sleeping and have no real purpose for keeping awake all night.

Each and every blogger should have a purpose for blogging, and also a plan set out ahead of them. Set some sort of goal that you want to accomplish. Goals like: I want to reach 1000 subscribers, getting your blog below the 100K Alexa rank making over $500.00 or more per month or target more search engine users.

Having a purpose for blogging can make it fun for you and if you have fun blogging then you can make money very easy from your blog in no time.

Not every blogger is happy with their blog’s layout or the theme that they are using. I have seen many bloggers changed their theme as much as 3 times within a 2 month period. Why is this the case? Because they are not happy with the outlook of thier blog.

When I first started blogging, I made sure to get the Thesis Theme which can be customized to the users liking. With the Thesis WordPress Theme I don’t have to know coding to make it looks like I know coding because this theme is so easy to use.

I am not saying that you should get Thesis, but I would strongly recommend it. Of course there are other themes out there that can be satisfying to your eyes so that you can be happy with your blog’s design.

Have you ever tried launching a poll and asking your blog readers whether they like your content or do they enjoy reading your blog? This is a really important question to ask yourself of you are a blogger.

If you are the type of person who doesn’t like the poll thing, you can know off hand if your blog readers are satisfied. Each time you write a new blog post, do you get the comments that you deserve? If you don’t get the comments that you think you should hav gotten on that particular article then your blog readers might not be fully satisfied with that blog post. You need to start making adjustment to your blog posts, change your style of writing, use paragraphs when writing, insert sub-headings to seperate your main points and don’t forget to write with your blog readers in mind.

Our blog readers are the persons that helps to make our blog successful, so don’t leave them out.

This question would be mostly asked by new bloggers who haven’t found the right niche as yet. New bloggers often start a blog because they think that the topic that they choose to blog about is the perfect one for them. But this is not the case after they start blogging. These new bloggers will soon realize that they know nothing about that niche and will sometimes fail at blogging.

If they fail and have not given up on blogging then they will wonder, Am I blogging in the right niche?

In order to find the right niche then you have to do some thinking before your start blogging. You should start a blog because you are passionate about a particular niche or you have knowledge about this niche and you want to blog to educate others about it.

Not all bloggers are honest to their blog readers and this is very painful when this is the case. Fake bloggers will display reports saying that “this” is what they have achieved in last month of blogging, or my blog has “this” amount of subscribers, or “this” product that I am recommending to you really works, when they know that they are truely lying to you.

Why do they do this? Why do they brag about other people’s achievement? This is because they want their blog readers to think that they are doing well at blogging and they are successful. They want to recommend products so that they can make an affiliate commission which never works like they say it do.

You should be truthful to your blog readers all the time. Everyone desires to hear the truth no matter what. If you do then your blog readers will put more trust in you and they will be loyal blog readers.

Let’s have a discussion about this blog post…
Please… Give me your feedback on each of these questions that were asked in this blog post. …And what other questions as a blogger you would ask yourself?

I think these are great questions. It seems everyone is blogging these days but dun stop and ask why they’re blogging – are they doing it for income, for popularity, for the ego boost?

So what about you, why do you blog?

    Hi Kharim,

These are some really good questions, particularly the one regarding honesty with your readers. Being transparent with them is absolutely vital if you want any sort of reputation as an expert blogger.

I feel you Karim. I just wrote another guest post and its from a different prospective, but we are thinking along the same lines on a few points. As a blogger you can’t get caught up in the hype or go down the road of “fake it to you make it”. Also my motto “is work smarter not harder” so if you say Thesis is easy I’m all for it! Good post.

    Hi Kharim,
I think asking yourself, “Am I Being Honest with My Readers?” is one of the most important questions you should ask yourself if you ever want to be a credible and influential blogger. The truth is the moment you recommend a product that doesn’t do what you say it will, people will know that you’re a fraud and you can only do that so many times in the online world before someone spills the beans on you and ruins your reputation for good.

The beauty about honestly, though – if you choose to be an honest blogger, you can really capitalize on it in the long run. People will grow respect you and your opinion. Then after you’ve gained their trust, they’ll eagerly listen to any recommendation you give.

  7. (April 21, 2011 at 10:11 am) | Permalink

Oh.. man, you hit on soooo many good points.

1st: GET Thesis if you don’t already have it.. And buy it thru Kharim’s affiliate link so he can get credit.. you do have one Kharmin? I would never run a blog without it. I can get indexed within an hour and the page on front page becasue of my SEO efforts thru Thesis

2nd: Changing design.. My blogs are always a work in progress because I love to improve and try new things on my sites. Like right now I’m having fun and lively ‘Welcome’ videos made.

3rd: Right niche.. This is SO important. One of my first blogs was a niche I had no interest in but thought I’d make a lot of money. I think I’ve made $100 in an entire year. Fast forward to my concert blogs.. I LOVE music and concerts and theater, and I think it shows. Definitely find I niche you can get excited about. I don’t care if you can get ghostwriters. It is NOT the same.

Hi Kharim, You did a great job (as always) of outlining important steps in delivering prime content. This essentially clarifies the importance of perspective in writing content. By taking a step back and putting yourself in the place of your reader, you can focus on delivering direct content that will have the reader glued to their seat.

I expect bloggers to be honest, it is online and I have become used to many lies.people should be honest in their blogs. I love to read stories that people write, and the funny things that they add to “spice it” up, and I would be really bummed if I found out that they lied about the basic story!

Transparency is extremely important. Our integrity is at stake and readers do get to know you so we should respect them by being honest!

    Thanks for sharing.

Finding the blog’s purpose seems to be a critical factor Kharim.

Get the purpose down, be clear on what you have to offer and like-minded people find you with greater ease. Make it easy for your readers by providing a clear cut idea of what they are visiting for. This way, uninterested people can leave immediately and interested people can stick around and see if your presentation style resonates with them.

    Great questions Kharim,

Actually this particular blog I mainly created it to be my journey of what I’m doing to create my own business. I’m helping others learn by watching what I’m doing and then sharing my results. So far, I’ve received really positive feedback due to the fact that I am being an open book and very honest with not only my results, but what is and is not working for me.

Now on my main blog it’s a whole different matter. One thing I’ve never done is a poll. But again, I receive a lot of really great feedback from my readers with the majority of them saying they are very happy with the content I provide and that again, I’m an open book and very honest about my journey online. To me, that is showing others that I’m very genuine and not just in this to grab their money. Trust me when I say, I’m getting a lot more sales because of my approach.

If I had to start over and didn’t know any better, I would definitely take into consideration everything you mentioned here. It’s taken me awhile to get to where I am now.

    Thanks for sharing…

I will suggest newbie bloggers to put “Am I Blogging In The Right Niche?” at the top of their mind because I’ve noticed it like many times that newbie bloggers in excitement start in IM or Tech Niche looking at income potential and later they just loose interest in it/starts copying content into their blog/rewrite some content/show people fake earnings etc. and they simply throw stones at themselves because of disappointment.

And all this started just because picking a niche that you have no idea what you will be doing in it after sometime.

  15. (April 27, 2011 at 10:21 am) | Permalink

When I started blogging I thought about me niche, and I always came back to a technology-related blog. It is important to be passionate about what you blog, or else you will lose interest and quit before getting anywhere.

I haven’t done a poll before, but have wondered if my readers are happy with how I am writing my content. To some degree, if you know your readership, you may have an idea of how you should write your posts.

    Hi Kharim,

These are some very important questions, as you said. I think it’s sad that so many bloggers jump into blogging because they’re told that they can easily make money. There’s nothing wrong with making money with a blog, but they often choose a popular topic they aren’t interested in, and because of that, they get bored and don’t put all the effort into their blog that they could if they were blogging about something they enjoyed. Blogging can be an enjoyable process, but you have to do it the right way, and I really don’t think that money can be your only motive.

    Great tips! :)

I think every question is important from time to time and at every stage in the life cycle of a blogger. If the purpose is not clear, not comfortable with the niche, layout and design is not to your satisfaction and the content does’nt interest readers as the content does’nt appear true.

Honesty is always the best policy. If a blogger is struggling with the first four questions, it is ok because there are so many people in the blogosphere to help you out but if your answer for the last question is no then the chord between you and your fellow bloggers may diminish, These are my views. Great article. Thanks for sharing.

The number one thing that people need to check out, is it something that they are passionate about, or just going through the flow just like other people! This is where a lot of people quit because they haven’t found in their hearts what their true passion is! Not everyone is called to blog, or has a passion to write or blog! THose are questions that most bloggers should ask, are they passionate, what can they give to the readers to benefit and be a blessing in their lives!

Great post Kharim. I agree with all of them, except I wouldn’t necessarily rank design so highly. its great to have a good design, but some of my most popular sites were the ugliest simply because they had good content and engaged the audience.

Kharim I believe these questions streamline the essentials of successful blogging. If you are in the wrong niche or aren’t being true to your readers you will certainly be drifting in troubled waters. There is another point I would like to add to what you have said – how will I know if I am really on course with my goals? I believe this question is equally important to warn us about losing focus or show areas their need further improvement.

Nice Post! and a big thumbs up from me.

YOu made it seem so easy with your explanation. I’m glad I read this post. Knowing your purpose for blogging is the ultimate step to success. Thousands of full time bloggers don’t even know what they’re doing. And these are the people who complain that money isn’t coming in.

Thanks for taking time to write this. Please can you write part 2 on this topic?

Blogging is Fun as every blogger with experienced would say. I totally agree with that and in fact I’m happy now for doing so. Blogging is partially defined as to the different views and of which perspective though the main context in the first place is “to write and share ideas”, expression and defining individualism – a freedom of information dissemination. We should cling to what our purpose in blogging and glad that this post said it all. What’s really your purpose in blogging?
