A Country Drive by Keith R Wahl, Made From RI Gallery

A Country DriveBright late afternoon spring sunlight filters through the trees highlighting a country drive in Rhode Island's South County
As a youngster, Sunday afternoons outside of boating season were for taking a drive. Though I am not that old, the drive was more rural. Driving down what is now a retail district was a drive in the country (what is now Route 2 in Warwick, Rhode Island).
On those Sunday Drives, we would pass various properties and farms. Looking out the backseat window, I was often enamored with the property's driveways. Some were straight. Some curved. Some fence lined. The term is, "character". These places had character.
So today, as I move about, I make note of rural settings.

Spring Budding OverheadA wide view of the trees in the wood surrounding Indian Lake in South Kingstown, RI
We live in an area where walks are frequent respites. As spring progresses, walking among the trees, we often look up in wonder as their buds appear and leaf out.
These trees in the wood offer gentle filtering of light about in the sky. Puffy clouds above drift by. A special moment, indeed.

"The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it!"

An enjoyable aspect of photography is that it sometimes captures surreal reality. These moments of seeming surrealism only last for a moment. How does one capture that moment? You have to be lucky enough to be there and aware of your surroundings.
This was my situation this afternoon looking north along the Saugatucket. I can explain the effects in view through optics, physics and, meteorolog

Serendipity. It's a term that I like to embrace more often in the day and age we live in. It's the pleasant, fortuitous surprises that make life more pleasant. A strict definition includes an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.

Orange Shadows CastIn the late-day sun, highlights of light and shadows cast
Orange is a color that is often called "happy". So coming across a natural display of the color orange that is mysterious and moody is a find.
These orange flowers know that this is later spring and that summer is coming. They know that the rain is coming tonight. They know that brightness is around the corner. But the current climate leaves them unsure, shy, and introverted. They hide in the shadows and look forward to the bright light. Orange flowers are happiness cloaked in mystery and wisdom.
